Bulldogs back with a vengeance

By East Alabama Sports Today

PIEDMONT – The Piedmont Bulldogs apparently didn’t lose their shooting touch during its COVID quarantine. In fact, it might have proven to be a good reset.

The Bulldogs returned to the floor with a vengeance Friday night, going 16-of-31 from behind the 3-point arc and blowing past Weaver 86-40.

They played their last game before going into COVID quarantine Dec. 29 in the Springville Invitational and weren’t playing well in the run up to the shutdown.

But in their first game back, nine of the 10 Piedmont players who got in the game hit at least one 3-pointer. Luke Bussey had four (three in the first quarter), Gavin Lawler had three (all in the fourth quarter) and Alex Odam and Jack Hayes had two each.

All of their scoring in a 21-point first quarter came on 3-pointers and they didn’t make their first two-point basket of the game until 5:06 remained in the second quarter. points in a 21-point

Odam, held scoreless in the Bulldogs’ last game before the quarantine, was their leading scorer on this night with 17 points and surpassed 1,500 in his career. Bussey had 16 points and Lawler had 13. Jadon Calhoun had nine points and seven rebounds against his former team and Jakari Foster grabbed nine rebounds.
