Lanier, Brown and Bailey lead way as Anniston boys in first place headed into final day of 4A meet in Gulf Shores. Winterboro boys, girls lead 1A, and Faith Christian’s boys and girls third.

GULF SHORES — Anniston’s boys are in position to win thor fourth Class 4A state track title in four years.

The Bulldogs led the Class 4A field in Gulf Shores after two days, including 16 of 29 events. They have 45 points to Catholic-Montgomery’s 35, and Ononta is third at 33.

Elijah Lanier took first in the 300-meter hurdles in 38.69 seconds, and Christavious Brown took third in 39.83. Lanier also qualified first in the 110 hurdles preliminaries (15.13), and Brown qualified third (15.57).

Sharontae Bailey took second in the shot put (52-07.25), and Keddrick Jordan took third in the 400 dash (50-12).

The 4×800 relay team took third in 8:26.36.

Alexandria’s boys, who won the Calhoun County championship, are sixth with 20 points, and Handley is eighth with 15.

In 4A girls, Anniston leads area teams in 11th place with 17 points. Liberty Lewis took second in the 400 dash (55.83).

Class 5A

Jacksonville’s boys are third with 30 points. Scottsboro leads with 77.

Rua Mathis and Quinn Weaver took second and third, respectively, in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. Mathis ran 4:17.36 in the 1,600 and 9:34.63 in the 3,200, and Weaver ran 4:17.77 and 9:35.15.

Central-Clay’s boys are fourth with 22 points, featuring Trsitin Wilson’s state championship in the triple jump (46-11.0).

Jacksonville’s girls lead area teams in sixth place with 200 points. Rachel Sloughfy took third in the 1,600 (5:07.36) and fourth in the 3,200 (11:32.09), and Jayci Taylor took third in the 400 (59.81).

Class 6A boys

Oxford stands in 11th place with 16 points, led by Xavier Endicott’s third-place finish in the discus (157-09). Oxford’s girls, the Calhoun County champion, have yet to record a scoring finish.

Class 1A

Winterboro leads the boys’ and girls’ team standings. 

The boys have 73 points and Marion County is second with 51. Faith Christian and Hackleburg are tied for third with 19.

Winterboro’s girls (45) lead a tight battle with Athens Bible (40.33) and Faith Christian (38.83).

Winterboro’s Carter Castleberry won the 400 dash (48.22) and high jump (6-02), and Kevin McKenzie took second in the 400 (50.81). Kavarris Duncan won the discus (164-11). William Shephard won the triple jump (44-04.50).

Faith Christian’s Jack Tant won the pole vault (11-06), and Brooks Earl took third (10-6).

Winterboro’s girls 4×800 relay won in 10:42.12. Skyeler Green took second in the long jump (16-05.75), and Alana Reynolds finished scond in th 1,600 (5:41.13). Lyric McGhee finished second in the 400 dash (1:00.98).

Faith’s Annie Ricard took first in th high jump (5-00). Kayson Cronan (8-06) and Amy Hubbard (8-00) took second and third in th pole vault.

Jacksonville Christian’s Mollie Mullinax won the 400 dash (1:00.23) and led 100 hurdles qualifying, Cali Sexton finished third in the pole vault (8-00).

Class 2A

Pleasant Valley’s girls are in fifth place, led by ella Parris’ first-place finish in the 400 dash (59.67). Janette Turner took third in the shot put (31-10).

Class 3A

Through eight of 22 events, Westbrook Christian leads area boys’ teams in sixth place. Brodey Wood won the javelin at 177-06.

Ohatchee is 10th with Quinn Nunnelly taking second in the discus (146-07), and Wellborn’s Karson Holley won the 400 dash (49.83).

Defending champion Weaver is 15th with most of its best events still to come Saturday. D.J. Marbury qualified first in the 110 hurdles preliminaries.

Weaver leads area girls’ teams in 11th. Jaylee Carter took third in the high jump (5-00).
