Oxford solves Pell City, completes sweep of regional to claim state-tourney berth. Munford earns way to state. JCA, Woodland survive the day.

ALBERTVILLE — Oxford’s softball team figured out Pell City on Tuesday, so figure on seeing Oxford in next week’s state tournament.
Jayla Jackson struck out 13 batters in seven innings and drove in two runs, and Oxford beat Area 11 rival Pell City 5-4 in the East Regional’s Class 6A winners’ bracket final at Sand Mountain Park.
Oxford (21-16) swept its three games in Albertville, including a 5-3 victory over eighth-ranked Homewood on Monday and clinched the regional’s top state qualifying spot. The Yellow Jackets will play the South Regional runner up at Choccolocco Park on Monday at 9 a.m.
Oxford will make its third state-tourney appearance in four years.
“I feel we’re peaking at the right time,” Oxford coach Wendy McKibbin said. “We’ve had some waves throughout the year where we’ve played really well and some not so well, but we’re clicking on all cylinders right now, and I’m proud of my kids.”
Pell City swept Oxford in two regular-season games and two area tournament games, but Oxford won their most consequential meeting of all this season, avoiding the elimination bracket at regional.
Pell City was to play Gardendale for the regional’s final state qualifying spot at 5 p.m.
“I told my kids, they beat us four times this year, so we’ve got their number,” McKibbin said. “I just said, let’s go do the little things, and little things add up to big things, and that’s what we’ve got to do.”
Jackson pitched complete games against Homewood and Pell City at regional and three innings against Mountain Brook on Tuesday. Every pitch mattered, because the Yellow Jackets won two on-run games and a two-run game.
McKibbin called Jackson’s performance against Pell City “ her best game of the year.” Jackson spread out nine hits, allowing two earned runs and two walks to go with 13 strikeouts.
She also went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and two runs.
Emma Tims-Becerra had a single and two RBIs, and Jordyn Alexander went 3-for-3 with a triple. Kylee Stephens added a triple and a run, and Koriyah Kimbrough had a double.
CHEROKEE COUNTY: The Warriors (30-20) eliminated White Plains 5-1 and Westminster Christian 1-0 before falling to No. 2 West Limestone 6-3 in the game to determine the regional’s last Class 4A state qualifying spot.
Sofia Dawson had a triple and two RBIs against White Plains, and Emma Hill had a double and an RBI. Kaylee Lewis added a double and a run.
Hill spread out six hits with five strikeouts and one walk over seven innings.
Dawson’s RBI single produced the lone run in the game against Westminster Christian, and Anna Morris had a single and a run.
Hill went 2-for-3 and pitched a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.
Izzy Patterson had a double and two RBIs against West Limestone, and Hill had a single and an RBI.
WHITE PLAINS: The Wildcats went 1-2 at regional and finished 29-23 on the season after falling to Cherokee County 5-1 on Tuesday.
Sara Kate Adams had a double and a run, and Karli Otwell singled with an RBI.
Carli Fritts pitched a solid outing, allowing seven hits, six walks and five earned runs with eight strikeouts.
The Wildcats won the Class 4A, Area 12 championship.
JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN: The Thunder (18-4) rebounded from a 3-0 loss to Skyline in their regional opener with an 11-1 victory over Addison to survive the day.
JCA will play Ragland in an elimination game Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.
Audrina Williams allowed four hits with five strikeouts against Addison after Sophia Williams held Skyline to four hits with 10 strikeouts.
JCA’s bats got going against Addison, pounding out 18 hits. Audrina Williams went 4-for-4 with two triples, four RBIs and two runs, and Carli Chesson went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.
Addy Lee and Sophia Williams each went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Lee had a double. Mollie Mullinax went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Symone Estell and Taylor Cash each had two hits and a run.
SPRING GARDEN: The Panthers fell to Ider 16-3 and Meek 11-1 and finished 12-23 on the season.
Addie Word had a single, an RBI and a run against Ider, and the Panthers got an RBI apiece from Maya Jennings and Olivia Messer. Kylie Bates had a single and a run.
Bates went 2-for-2 with a run against Meek.
Central Regional
MUNFORD: The Lions (35-12) fell 19-2 to American Christian in the winners’ bracket final but rebounded to beat Prattville Christian 13-5 to claim the regional’s second state qualifying spot.
Munford will play North Regional top qualifier West Morgan at the state tournament Monday at 9 a.m. at Choccolocco Park.
Brooklyn Pressley went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three runs and two RBIs against Prattville Christian, and Chloe Pickette went 2-for-5 with a homer, a double, three RBIs and two runs.
Addyson Britt went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and a run. Madison Arnold went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Kastin Lathem went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Arnold got the win, allowing three hits, no earned runs and one walk with four strikeouts in four innings.
HANDLEY: The Tigers fell to Oak Grove 10-4 in an elimination game and finished 13-21.
Brynnley Lane had a double and two RBIs, and Breydan Watkins had a double, a run and an RBI. Rayna Smith had a double and a run.
WOODLAND: The Bobcats (20-11-1) opened with a 14-3 victory over Keith then fell to Maplesville 6-1. They’ll play Fayetteville in an elimination game Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.
Woodland had 18 hits against Keith. Kinsley McDaniel went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs. June Kirby went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Alyssa Taylor went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and a run.
Skylar Vann had a triple and a run. Allie Puckett added a double and a run, and Lilly Kirby went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs.
Puckett spread out eight hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk in six innings.
