Donoho’s Carson Chandler shot 1-under-par 71 in Tuesday’s final round of the Class 1A-2A state golf tournament and finished 2 under for the tournament and in third place.

Elba’s Jay Wilson, the defending medallist who was tied with Chandler for the lead after Monday’s first round, shot 6-under 66 Tuesday and edged Lindsay Lane’s Liam Hooton by one shot to finish as medalist for the second year in a row.

The tournament played out at Robert Trent Jones-Dothan, and Tuesday’s round played out in the rain.

“I’m glad to get the opportunity to be able to play in it,” Chandler said. “I’m happy with how I played, with how the conditions were.”

Chandler rebounded from a double bogey on the first hole with birdies on Nos. 2 and 3. He finished the day with seven birdies, four bogeys and the double bogey.

He settled down after feeling the pressure of entering the final round in contention.

“I was definitely pretty nervous,” he said. “It got to me a little this morning on the first hole. After that, I kind of settled down and started playing like I normally would.”

Also at Dothan, Weaver’s boys finished fourth in Class 3A, shooting 337-332–669. Montgomery Academy won with a two-day total of 625, followed by St. James at 641 and Whitesburg Christian at 642.

West Point’s Brooklyn Sutter shot 71-75–146 to win medalist by four shots. Alexandria’s Jasmine Stokes led area golfers, shooting 83-75–158 to finish fifth.
