Vandiber, Sesay score goals, but Donoho falls Whitesburg Christian on late goal in Class 1A-3A semifinals.

HUNTSVILLE — Whitesburg Christian’s Kylie Lane scored a goal with 3:26 remaining, and the Warriors edged Donoho 3-2 in Thursday’s Class 1A-3A girls’ soccer semifinals at Huntsville’s John Hunt Park.

Whitesburg Christian (15-5-1) advanced to Friday’s championship match against Lee-Scott Academy..

Donoho (15-5) and Whitesburg Christian traded goals, with Whitesburg’s Finley Amos scoring the first goal in the 33rd minute. Donoho answered with just 20 seconds to go before halftime, when Brooke Vandiber scored on an assist from Isata Sesay.

Sesay scored on an assist from Vandiber just six minutes into the second half, but Whitesburg answered with Abby Rose Smith knotting the match 2-2 with a goal just six minutes later.

Lane scored the game-winner in the 76th minute on an assist from Elle Abercrombie.

Whitesburg Christian, coached by Ashley Ward, will be seeking the school’s first girls’ state title.
Donoho, coached by Tim Melton, was also chasing its first girls’ soccer championship while making its fifth Final Four appearance. Goalkeeper Anna Harrison McGehee recorded seven saves.

Whitesburg Christian goalkeeper Lucy Lash recorded three saves, and the Warriors outshot Donoho 17-13.
