ROANOKE –
Miciah Myles scored nine of his 15 points in the final five minutes of the game as Anniston rallied from a seven-point deficit to beat Handley 60-56, remain undefeated and take the upper hand in its area.

The Bulldogs have survived tests by the two other teams expected to contend for the area’s playoff berths in their last two games.

Handley led by as many as 12 in the first half and 51-44 with 5:12 to play. Myles single-handedly erased the deficit with seven straight points to tie the game with 3:55 left. When Malcolm Carlisle scored moments later, the Bulldogs had a lead they’d never lose.

The Tigers tied it on two free throws with 3:19 left, then Carlisle scored a basket and Antonio Kite dropped a free throw on consecutive possessions and the Bulldogs maintain a two-point lead the rest of the game.

Handley cut it to 58-56 on a basket by Josh Smith with 40.1 seconds left, but Anniston held it off on a free throw by Carlisle with 37.4 left and one by Kite with 4.5 seconds to go.

Myles was one of four Anniston scorers in double figures. Kite had 14 points and Carlisle and Mark Toyer had 10 each.

“Myles and Toyer were really incredible tonight,” Anniston coach Torry Brown said.

Smith led Handley with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Jalen Herren also scored 12 points for the Tigers.
