White Plains rallied from a 13-point first-quarter deficit Tuesday to beat Weaver 63-56 in overtime.

The Lady Wildcats put four scorers in double figures, with Ary Rosario and Lily Ponder each scoring 13. Jocelyn Harris had 11 and Callyn Martin added 10. All four played big roles in getting the game to overtime and in the extra period.

Martin scored five points in overtime and Rosario had four. The Lady Wildcats held Weaver to four free throws in the extra session.

Trinity Pulliam’s layup gave Weaver a 52-50 lead with 1:24 left in regulation, but Ponder retied the game with a pair of free throws with 21 seconds to go. Both teams had chances to win it at the end of regulation but Caleigh Cortez missed a shot for Weaver with 13 seconds left and Ponder’s shot fell away at the buzzer.

Martin hit two free throws with 1:34 left in overtime to give White Plains the lead for good 58-56. Rosario extended the lead to five with a layup-and-one with 57 seconds to play and Angel Bozarth’s layup with 23 seconds left created the final margin.

The baskets by Rosario and Bozarth both came after Weaver missed a pair of free throws at the other end of the floor.

Weaver also had four scorers in double figures, led by Cortez’ 13, but the Lady Bearcats also had four players foul out of the game.

OXFORD – Plainview scored 11 straight points in the final four minutes to pull away from a game the Lady Jackets (1-9) led most of the way until the last shot of the third quarter.

Plainview’s Tobi Trotter took over down the stretch as she scored nine points to help the Bears (8-3) pull away.

Akeira Robinson scored six of the first 10 points to put Oxford up 10-5 early. The Bears fought back to narrow the deficit to two at the end of the quarter. The Lady Jackets forced six turnovers in the quarter with a tight defense.

Robinson, a junior guard, led Oxford with 13 points and five rebounds as Plainview was determined to double team Justyce Smith down low. The Bears did a good job of it, holding the post to just three field goals.

Both teams had six turnovers in a slow-paced second quarter. Plainview buried two 3s in the last two minutes to tie the game at the half.

Smith scored a couple of buckets in the third quarter, but the Bears rallied late in the quarter on six points from Tobi Trotter to take a three-point lead. The Lady Jackets were down 41-40 with four minutes to go before Plainview pulled away. –Brant Locklier
