Surging Pleasant Valley softball wins pre-area tournament. Alexandria and Ohatchee win two apiece. Piedmont and PV baseball split, Alexandria victorious and so much more on a busy Saturday.

Going around the horn on Saturday’s area high school baseball and softball:  

Softball

PLEASANT VALLEY WINS THREE: The Raiders are hitting stride at the right time.

Pleasant Valley beat Glencoe 7-4 on Friday then beat Jacksonville 14-3 and Fort Payne 9-6 on Saturday to sweep through its pre-area round-robin. The Raiders (18-19) have won nine of their last 11 games.

Alexa Cranmer went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI against Jacksonville, and Abigail Evans went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Hanna Henry and Cailey Almaroad each went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and the Raiders got a single, a run and an RBI apiece from Charlee Grogan and Lilly Robinson.

Robinson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs against Fort Payne. Cranmer had a single, two RBIs and a run, and Ellie Patterson went 2-for-4 with two runs.

ALEXANDRIA WINS TWO: After falling to Athens 4-3 and Crockett County (Tenn.) 3-0 on Friday, Alexandria (27-10) rebounded to beat Hackleburg 6-0 and Hardin County 8-4 on Saturday.

Reece Carr pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts against Hackleburg. Cali Hess went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and Charlee Parris went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Baylee Elston went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Parris went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI against Hardin County. Jacee Brooks went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Carr had a single and two RBIs. Hess hit a double.

OHATCHEE WINS TWO: The Indians (25-9) beat Wellborn 13-2 and Woodland 4-1.

Reese Steward went 2-for-4 with three RBIs against Wellborn, and Alanah Fitch went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs and an RBI. Gracie Reed went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Jada Griffith had a double, a run and an RBI.

Jordyn Faulkner allowed three hits with eight strikeouts in five innings.

Makayla Brackett pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts against Woodland, and Fitch went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs. Annie Cox had a single and an RBI.

GLENCOE SPLITS: After falling to Pleasant Valley 7-4 on Friday, the Yellow Jackets lost to Fort Payne 10-4 and beat Jacksonville 7-6 on Saturday.

Kynsley Freeman went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI against Jacksonville, and Evelyn Nowak went 3-for-4 with a run. Zowie Morris went 2-for-3 with a run.

Andeemae Skinner had a double, a run and an RBI. Caitlin Romano and Riley Brothers each had a single, a run and an RBI.

Nowak went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI against Fort Payne, and Skinner went 3-for-4, Romano went 2-for-3 an RBI.

Brothers had a double and a run, and Katy Talbot had a double. 

JACKSONVILLE DROPS TWO: The Golden Eagles (8-15) fell to Pleasant Valley 14-3 and Glencoe 7-6.

Jalen Huntley went 1-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs against Glencoe. Ava Snead went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Sadie Pate-Whitfield went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs.

Avery Allen went 2-for-3.

Huntley homered while going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI against Pleasant Valley. Alyssa Barnes went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ana Strain went 2-for-3.

MUNFORD 10, LINCOLN 7: Kastin Lathem hit a grand slam, and Addyson Bishop went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs as the Lions reached 27-8 on the season. 

Brooklyn Pressley got the win, allowing seven hits, seven earned runs and three walks with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

Kalia Fowles and Shelby Williams homered as Lincoln fell to 19-14-1. Fowles went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Wlliams went 1-for-1 with two RBIs.

Emery-Kate Hendrix and Cameron Pruitt each had a double and a run, and Aubrey Machen went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Munford also fell to West End-Walnut Grove 5-2. 

CHEROKEE COUNTY 8, PIEDMONT 1: Emma Hill pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts, and Cherokee County won Wellborn’s pre-area tournament.

Emma Eberhart went 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Brooklynn Bruce had an RBI.  

Piedmont pitchers Keagan Rogers and Ellie Tolbert combined to hold Cherokee County to five hits and two earned runs. Nakia Bothwell and Amarae Champion each hit a single.

WOODLAND 8, PIEDMONT 0: Railey Williams allowed five hits with eight strikeouts in five innings, and Woodland upped to 13-9-1.

Alyssa Taylor went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs, and Lilly Kirby went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs. Leah Geter went 2-for-2 with a run, and Emma Ellsberry went 2-for-3 with a run.

Kinsley McDaniel doubled and drove in a run.

Piedmont got a single apiece from Cadance Buttram, Nakia Bothwell, Amarae Champion, Kaelyn Greene and Keagan Rogers.

RANBURNE SPLITS: The Bulldogs (14-14) beat Handley 10-8 and lost to Shelby County 8-6.

Rylie Duke went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run against Handley. Dakota Martin went 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.

Peyton Smith went 1-for-1 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Kamryn Jenkins had a double, a run and an RBI, and Kasen Hallman had a double and an RBI.

K.K. Rollins singled with an RBI.

Handley’s Livia Bozeman went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Aliyah Wilson went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Breydan Watkins and Olivia Cobb each had a single, a run and an RBI.

Against Shelby County, Jenkins went 1-for-3 with three RBIs, and Rollins went 2-for-3 with a run.

Baseball

PIEDMONT SPLITS: The Bulldogs (24-7) beat Handley 12–0 and lost to Etowah 3-0.

Carson Cleveland went 2-for-2 with three RBIs against Handley, and Cole Austin went 1-for-1 with a double, the RBIs and two runs.

Rylan Franklin had a double and two RBIs, and Ben Dempsey went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Carson Sanders, Ethan Tidwell and Alex Bass each had a single and an RBI. 

Cleveland allowed three hits with three strikeouts in five innings.

Etowah’s Ward pitched a two-hitter against Piedmont, and Rylan Fore went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Cash Burns went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Piedmont’s Crawford Mallett allowed four hits, no earned runs and one walk with four strikeouts in five innings.  

ALEXANDRIA 6, PELL CITY 4: Cooper Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Alexandria improved to 22-10. He also allowed one hit, one earned run and four walks with one strikeout in three innings.

Jeremiah Heathcock went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Emmitt Waldrep had a single and an RBI.

Cam Johnson allowed one hit, one earned run and one walk in three innings.

PLEASANT VALLEY 2-5, SPRING GARDEN 3-1: Pleasant Valley (16-7) won the opener 3-2, and Spring Garden (15-11) won the second game 5-1.

Pleasant Valley’s Dallas Roper went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run in the first game, and Cooper Dougal went 2-for-3 with a run.

Jake Barnwell got the win, allowing one hit, three walks and one earned run with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Spring Garden’s Clayton Sadler went 3-for-3 with a double and a run, and Brady Ruark had a single and an RBI.

Sadler spread out five hits and two walks with no earned runs allowed and five strikeouts in the second game. He also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. 

Zane Edwards went 2-for-2 with two runs, and Ruark had a single and an RBI. Joel Hunter went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Roper had a single and RBI, and Jackson Acker went 2-for-4.

GLENCOE 6, WEST END-WALNUT GROVE 1: Aiden Johnson went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBIs and a run, and Glencoe reached 12-20 on the season.

Jaxon Hollis went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Jacob Loftis went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Hollis pitched five innings, allowing six hits, four walks and one earned run with six strikeouts. Daniel Bradley pitched two perfect innings of relief. 

HOKES BLUFF 6, SARDIS 5: Sardis scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game, but Bray Bearden’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning reclaimed the lead for Hokes Bluff (16-13)

Bearden finished with two RBIs.

Carson Peppers went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Bryce Whitaker went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI.

Brayden Davis had a double, a run and an RBI, and Caden Howard had a single, a run and an RBI.

Preston Griffith got the win, pitching a perfect 1 1/3 innings of relief with one strikeout. 

MUNFORD 9, RANBURNE 8: Munford (12-10) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, walking it off on Braydon Nichols’ three-run double. He finished 2-for-5.

Aiden Harris went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and a run, and B.J. Andrson went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Landon Gallahair went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs and an RBI. 

Kane Krafthefer and Bryson Cooper each went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Cooper hit a triple, and Krafthefer hit a double.

Ranburne’s Owen Hendrson went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. James Ward went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, and Cason Jones went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Colton Johnson had a single, a run and an RBI.
