BIRMINGHAM — Kiyra Butler accounted for 124 total yards and two touchdowns, and Hope Christian’s flag football team won 24-0 on Thursday at John Carroll Catholic.

With the victory, Hope’s first-year program clinched a second-place finish in Private Class A-AA, Region 4 and will play host to a first-round playoff game. This comes in Hope’s first school year of Alabama High School Athletic Association play.

“I’m extremely proud of these young ladies!” Hope coach Brandon Slick said. “From where we started out in July, with the formation of the team and little to no knowledge of the game, to where we are right now on Oct. 22 is a testament to their hard work and eagerness to learn every day. We have demanded perfection, knowing that we were going to fall short of that every day because only God is perfect, but when you fall just short of perfection each day then you’re still working with excellence and always getting one percent better each day..

“This is exciting times for this program, with only one senior and tons of underclassmen. We are thrilled as a program and as a school with what we have accomplished so far, but we are far from finished. We have four more wins to pick up this year and bring home a ‘Blue Map.'”

Butler rushed for 101 yards and caught two passes for 23 yards and two touchdowns.

Kylie Satcher passed for 48 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 31 yards, and A.J. Montgomery caught two passes for 25 yards and two touchdowns.

Camille Robinson intercepted two passes, and Madelyn Arnold had one interception. Myla Arnold’s interception keyed a goal-line stand early in the game.
