Spring roundup

Jacksonville, Ohatchee win in baseball. Ranburne and Munford split doubleheader. Pleasant Valley, Jacksonville, JCA, Piedmont and Weaver among winners in softball. Donoho girls roll in soccer, and Jacksonville’s boys win.

Going around the horn on Friday’s area high school baseball and softball and over the pitch in soccer:  

Baseball

JACKSONVILLE 20, DONOHO 3: Matthew Salmon went 2-for-3 with the RBI and two runs, and Jacksonville finished its first season under head coach Taylor Hays 16-16.

Parker Moore went 2-for-2 with the RBIs and a run. Cooper Haynes went 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs, and John Ducar went 1-for-1 with a double, the RBIs and a run.

Nick Johnson went 2-for-4 with the runs and an RBI, and Brody Sedenik had two RBIs.

Senior manager Christian Bitticks saw action on the basepaths, coming away with a steal and a run.

OHATCHEE 4, WEAVER 1: Joshua Hulbert had a home run and two RBIs, and Ohatchee topped Weaver. Ethan Jones had a single, a run and an RBI, and Kaleb Brunner had a single and an RBI.

Alexander Boling got the win, allowing two hits with eight strikeouts in six innings.

Weaver’s Braylen Gregory had a single and an RBI, and Tucker Michaels had a double. Connor Hyatt pitched two perfect innings of relief with one strikeout. 

LAKESIDE 5-6, HOPE CHRISTIAN 4-4: The Saints fell in their first-round AISA playoff series, 5-4 and 6-4, and finished 16-9.

They lost to Lakeside 13-0 in the season opener.

Caden Marturello had a single and an RBI in the first game, and Kainen Bozeman had a double and a run. Aziah Ambrson went 2-for-4.

Bozeman went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in the second game, and Marturello had a double, a run and an RBI. Trevor Ryals went 2-for-3 with a run.

RANBURNE 5-3, MUNFORD 3-4: The Bulldogs (22-9-1) and Lions (11-10) split.

Ranburne’s Drew Davenport went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the first game, a 5-3 Ranburne victory. Carter Loren went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Cason Jones had a single, a run and an RBI. 

James Ward went 2-for-4, and Colton Johnson went 2-for-3 with a run. Aiden Jackson had a double and a run.

Rance Merrill got the win, holding Munford to one hit with three strikeouts in five innings. 

Munford’s Landon Gallahair spread out nine hits with three strikeouts in six innings.

Braydon Nichols allowed three hits with 11 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings in the second game, a 4-3 Munford victory. He and Gallahair both surpassed 100 career strikeouts.

Nichols went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Kan Krafthefer went 2-for-4 with a run.

Softball

PLEASANT VALLEY 7, GLENCOE 4: Pleasant Valley’s Lilly Robinson had a double and the RBIs, and A Evans went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Alexa Cranmer went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Hanna Henry had a double and a run, and Elis Wheeler had a single and an RBI.

Glencoe’s Riley Brothers had two RBIs, and Caitlin Romano had one.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 13-21, COOSA CHRISTIAN 1-1: JCA swept Coosa Christian 13-1 and 21-1 to reach 13-2 on the season. 

Mollie Mullinax went 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple, three runs and two RBIs in the first game, and Audrina Williams went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Addy Lee went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, and two runs, and B Reid went 1-for-2 with a double and a run.

Williams got the win, allowing four hits, on earned runs and no walks with nine strikeouts in five innings.

Carlle Chesson went 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs in the second game, and Cali Sexton went 2-for-2 with a triple, four RBIs and the runs.

Williams went 1-for-1 with three RBIs and two runs.

Lee got the win, allowing one hit, one walk and no earned runs with seven strikeouts in three innings.

JACKSONVILLE 12, FORT PAYNE 9: Jacksonville got home runs from Sadie Pate-Whitfield, Ava Snead, Alyssa Barnes and Jalen Huntley on the way to reaching 8-13 for the season.

Pate-Whitfield went 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, four RBIs; Snead 1-for-3, two RBIs and two runs; Barnes 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run; and Huntley 1-for-4, two RBIs and a run.

Ana Strain went 5-for-5 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs, and Harper Atchley went 3-for-4 with a double and a run. Chloe Lockett went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

LINCOLN SPLITS: The Golden Bars (19-13-1) lost to Shelby County 7-3 and beat Munford 10-4.

Gracyn Oglesby homered with the RBIs against Munford, and Chandler Stephens went 1-for-2 with three RBIs.

Cameron Pruitt went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs, and Aubrey Machen went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI. 

Kalia Fowles went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Shelby Williams went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Addison Campbell had a double and a run.

Machen went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBIs against Shelby County.

MUNFORD SPLITS: Munford (26-7) beat Shelby County 5-2 and lost to Lincoln 10-4.

Addyson Britt homered twice while going 2-for-2 with three RBis and two runs against Shelby County, and Madison Arnold went 2-for-2 with a run. 

Brooklyn Pressley got the win, allowing two hits, two earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings.

Kastin Lathem homered with three RBIs against Lincoln. Bayleigh Durham had a single and a run.

PIEDMONT 10, WELLBORN 1: Keagan Rogers went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, and Piedmont improved to 13-12-2.

Nakia Bothwell and Amarae Champion each had two runs and an RBI, and Anna Hase had a run and an RBI.

Robyn Payne allowed three hits, three walks and no earned runs with two strikeouts.

WOODLAND SPLITS: The Bobcats (12-8-1) beat Wellborn 6-2 and lost to Cherokee County 6-0.

Railey Williams went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs against Wellborn, and Skylar Vann went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs. 

Alyssa Taylor and Lucy Phillips each had a double and a run.

Williams got the win, working a scoreless inning of relief with the strikeouts.

Kinsley McDaniel went 2-for-2 with a double against Cherokee County, and Vann had a double.

WEAVER 22, GAYLESVILLE 8: Weaver (11-13) pounded out 23 hits.

Maddie Stanford went 4-for-4 with two triples, four runs and three RBIs. Reyleigh Partner went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, the runs and two RBIs, and Ashlyn Coleman went 3-for-4 with a double, the runs and two RBIs.

Promise McLean went 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs, and Ariel Sargent went 2-for-6 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI. Charli Reaves went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run, and Heaven Bishop had a double, two runs and an RBI.

CHEROKEE COUNTY WINS TWO: The Warriors beat Ohatchee 7-2 and Woodland 6-0.

Sydni Frost pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts against Woodland. She also hit a triple and had four RBIs.

Emma Eberhart went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Brooklynn Bruce went 3-for-3 with a run. Kaylee Lewis went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Isabella Patterson had a single and two runs.

Emma Hill went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs, and Frost had a double and an RBI. Frost had a double and an RBI.

Hill pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts.

RANBURNE WINS TWO: The Bulldogs (13-13) bt B.B. Comer 16-0 and Handley 8-4.

Mia Jackson pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts in the innings against Comer. Rylann Graham went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs, and D Martin went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs. 

Carter Martin and Heidi Noles each had a single, two RBIs and a run, and K.K. Rollins went 2-for-2 with a double and a run. Kasen Hallman had a double and a run, and Shaylie Reaves had a double and two runs.

Addison Gibbs hit a solo home run against Handly. Rollins went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Reaves had a double, a run and an RBI.

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN SPLITS: The Warriors (5-17) beat Susan Moore 4-3 and lost to Ider 5-2.

Audry Snead had a double and an RBI against Susan Moore. Ava Tucker went 2-for-3 with a double, and Brooklyn Stewart had a single, an RBI and a run. Alexis Crossley had a single and an RBI.

Reid Elam spread out nine hits and struck the batters in six innings on the way to the win.

Snead had a double, a run and an RBI against Ider, and Tucker had a single and an RBI.

Soccer

DONOHO GIRLS 10, SAKS 0: Chloe Melton scored the game-ending goal early in the second half, and Donoho upped to 12-3 with a victory on senior night.

Seniors Morgan Perry and Claire Payne each scored a goal, with Payne scoring her first career goal.

The Falcons got three goals from Brooke Vandiber and a goal apiece from Izzy Romero, Lauren Wigley, Isata Sesay and Hazel Wallace.   

Wigley had two assists. Melton, Romero, Wigley and Sophia Sanders had one apiece.

JACKSONVILLE 2, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 0: Jacksonville got two goals from Cooper Morgan and an assist apiece from Judah Jnnings and Colin Thurman. Goalie Jackson Patterson had the saves on the way to a shutout.
