Baseball
OXFORD 5-12, PELL CITY 4-1: Oxford swept its Class 6A, Area 11 series with Pell City to improve to 24-10 on the season. The Yellow Jackets won the area title and will play host to a first-round playoff series.
Oxford walked it off in Thursday’s first game, with Bryson Bradford singling home a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure 5-4 victory. He finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.
Zakaree Newton went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Rocco Maniscalco and Ayden Noyola each had a double, an RBI and a run, and Charlie Maniscalco had a single, an RBI and a run.
Canaan Whitman hit a double.
Asher Turner got the win, allowing no hits or runs with one strikeout and one walk in one inning of relief. Chase Williams got the start, allowing three hits, two earned runs and one walk with one strikeout in 4 2/3 innings.
Newton homered with two RBIs and two runs as Oxford won the second game 12-1. Charlie Maniscalco went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Whitman went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Marcus Lawler had a double and two runs.
Bradford got the win, allowing one hit, on and run and one walk with four strikeouts in three innings.
ALEXANDRIA 15-5, CHEROKEE COUNTY 0-0: Alexandria rebounded from a loss to Cherokee County on Tuesday with two Thursday shutouts to claim the Class 4A, Area 12 title.
The Valley Cubs will play host to their first-round playoff series.
Emmitt Waldrep pitched a three-hit shutout with two strikeouts in five innings in the first game, a 15-0 victory.
Jeremiah Heathcock went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a run, and Jace Loggins went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run. Garrett Haynes went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs. Sawyer Coggins went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
Coggins pitched a three-hit shutout with three strikeouts in seven innings in the second game, a 5-0 victory, and Knox Faulkner went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Weston Haynes went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 13, FAITH CHRISTIAN 1: Grant Daffron went 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs, and JCA completed a sweep of its Class 1A, Area 12 series with Faith Christian.
Anthony Gooch went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs, and Jameson Holderread went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Logan Brodeur went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Gooch got the win, allowing five hits, one earned run and no walks with seven strikeouts in five innings.
PIEDMONT 5, PLAINVIEW 4: Piedmont scored five runs in the first three innings and withstood Plainview’s three-run seventh.
Eli Johnson had a double and three RBIs, and Alex Bass had an RBI. Carson Sanders had a single and two runs, and Aliandre Wright had a single and a run.
Charlie Sparks got the win, allowing one hit with four walks and six strikeouts in four innings.
WEAVER 20, SAKS 0: Landon Free pitched a perfect game with six strikeouts in five innings, and Weaver swept its Class A, Area 9 series. He also went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, a run and three RBIs.
Braylen Gregory went 4-for-4 with a triple, a double, six RBIs and three runs, and Tucker Micheal went 4-for-5 with three runs and an RBI.
Elijah Wills went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run, and Lyric Newman had a triple, three RBIs and a run. Connor Hyatt went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, and Patrick Fink had a single and two RBIs.
Tracen Jones went 1-for-1 with three runs and an RBI.
WHITE PLAINS 13, CLEBURNE COUNTY 11: White Plains (9-17) took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and swept its Class 4A, Area 12 series.
Logan Laube went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs, and Crew Martin went 3-for-3 with five runs. Elijah Turner went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Jacob Stamm had a single and two runs.
Caden Foster and Matthew Masson each had a single and an RBI.
PLEASANT VALLEY 3, HOKES BLUFF 0: Jackson Acker pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks, and Pleasant Valley improved to 17-9. He also hit a double.
Dallas Roper went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Peyton Mann went 3-for-4 with a run. W Wheeler had a single, a run and an RBI.
JACKSONVILLE 4-7, ST. CLAIR COUNTY 0-4: Jacksonville (15-16) came back from a Tuesday loss to win its Class 5A, Area 11 series.
Luke Richardson pitched a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks in the first game, a 4-0 victory, and John Ducar went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Nick Johnson went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Sam Parker-Wagoner had an RBI and a run.
Jackson Askew had a single, three RBIs and a run in the second game. Matthew Salmon went 3-for-3 with a run, and Parker-Wagoner went 1-for-1 with four runs.
Javian Fomby went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Parker Moore went 2-for-3.
Ducar got the win, allowing four hits, two walks and one earned run with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
WELLBORN 4-10, RANDOLPH COUNTY 6-6: Wellborn (13-13) split its Class A, Area 9 doubleheader, winning the second game 10-6 to clinch the area series.
Ashton Woodard came up big in the second game, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, five RBIs and two runs. Dalton Dillard went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Sawyer Thomas went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Tanner Ingram and Zach Pressley each had a single, a run and an RBI.
Jackson Clark got the win, allowing two hits, two walks and one earned run with three strikeouts in two innings of relief.
Randolph County’s Ryder Pinson went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Sawyer Hester went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Randolph County’s Dalton Spivey had a single and two RBIs in the first game. Pinson had a triple, an RBI and a run, and Hester had a single, an RBI and a run.
Rhett Huddleston had a double and two runs.
Spivey pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, five walks and two earned runs with six strikeouts.
For Wellborn, J.D. Talley went 2-for-4 with a run. Pressley had a triple, and the Panthers got a double apiece from Ingram and Thomas.
SPRING GARDEN 13, GAYLESVILLE 0: Clayton Sadler and B Bostick combined to hold Gaylsville to one hit, and the Panthers (14-10) swept three Class 1A, Area 12 series.
Sadler allowed no hits and one walk with six strikeouts in three innings, and Bostick allowed one hit with no walks and five strikeouts in two innings.
Ben Baker went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, and Brady Ruark went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Dawson Ellzey wnt 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Zane Edwards had a double, two runs and an RBI.
HANDLEY 9, REELTOWN 6: Skylar Hester went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run, and Handley reached 17-11 on the season.
Cole Davis went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and Cordan Pattrson went 3-for-4 with a double and four runs. Luke Murr had a single, two RBIs and a run.
SOUTHSIDE 11-5, GADSDEN CITY 2-4: Southside (15-14) rallied from a Tuesday loss to win its Class 6A, Area 14 series.
Alex Brewer went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run in the first game, Will Stapleton went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Shelby Houston went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Kolt Johnson went 2-for-2 with a double and a run.
Abe Martin pitched a complete game, spreading out svn hits with two earned runs and no walks allowed with three strikeouts.
Johnson’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh walked it off for Southside in the second game.
Houston had a double, a run and an RBI. Martin and Ethan Sarratt each had a single and an RBI, and Stapleton went 2-for-3 with a run.
Sarratt pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Softball
PELL CITY 6, OXFORD 2: Pell City took the lead with four runs in the top of the eighth inning.
Phoebe Stover went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Caroline Tarver went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Kensley Evans and Kherington Keith each went 2-for-4 with a run, and Keith hit a double.
Grace Falls had a single, a run and an RBI.
Ally Mosley pitched all eight innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs and a walk with five strikeouts.
Oxford’s Jordyn Alexander went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Kylee Stephens went 2-for-4 with a run.
PIEDMONT 18, SAKS 4: Amarae Champion went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Piedmont drew even on the season at 12-12-2.
Ellie Tolbert went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, and Keagan Rogers went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs.
Brindlee Masters had a double and three RBIs, and Cadance Buttram went 2-for-5 with two runs.
Tolbert pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts.
OHATCHEE 7, RAGLAND 3: Alanah Fitch went 1-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Ohatch reached 23-8 on the season.
Reese Steward went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Madison Mize went 2-for-3 with a double. Jordyn Faulknr had a single and a run.
Makayla Brackett allowed one hit, one earned run and one walk with two strikeouts in four innings.
RANDOLPH COUNTY 7, WEAVER 5: Bryer Thompson and Abi Waters hit RBI singles in the top of the eighth inning, and Randolph County upped to 17-7.
Graci Huckeba went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs, and Hannah Palmer went 3-for-5 with a solo homer. Kendahl Huckeba went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Waters got the win, allowing nine hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk in eight innings.
Weaver’s Maddie Stanford went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Heaven Bishop had a double and an RBI. Charli Reaves went 2-for-4.
LINCOLN 17, JACKSONVILLE 6: Kalia Fowles and Addison Campbll homered, and Lincoln upped to 18-12-1 on the season.
Fowles went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, and Campbell went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a run.
Aubrey Machen went 3-for-5 with three doubles, three runs and two RBIs, and Cameron Pruitt went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.
Shelby Williams went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Emery-Kate Hendrix had a double and three runs.
Jacksonville’s Ana Strain went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI, and Raybon Pridgen went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Sadie Pate-Whitfield went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
PLEASANT VALLEY 7, SAND ROCK 6: Pleasant Valley scored two runs on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning, and the Raiders clinched the right to play host to the Class 2A, Area 13 tournament.
Charlee Grogan went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Lilly Robinson went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Ellie Pattrson went 2-for-3 with a run.
Ella-Kate Roper got the win, allowing five hits, three earned runs and no walks with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
SPRiNG GARDEN 15, COOSA CHRISTIAN 0: Olivia Messer pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts, and Spring Garden reached 9-16 on the season. She also went 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs.
Maya Jennings went 2-for-4 with a home, three RBIs and two runs, and Kylie Bates went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a run.
Bella Garmon went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Lleyton Carroll had a single and two runs.
CLEBURNE COUNTY 17, WINTERBORO 0: Macey East pitched a perfect three innings with eight strikeouts, and Cleburne County upped to 12-15.
Emma Williamson went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, and Kyree Hilburn went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a run.
Alleigh Prince went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, and Lilah Robinson went 1-for-1 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.
Lola Shelton went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
CHEROKEE COUNTY 2, WHITE PLAINS 0: Cherokee County’s Emma Hill pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Isabella Patterson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Kaylee Lewis went 2-for-2.
Carli Fritts had White Plains’ one hit, a single.
WOODLAND 3, HORSESHOE BEND 0: Railey Williams pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts, and Woodland improved to 11-7-1. Alyssa Taylor went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, three RBIs and a run. Kinsley McDaniel went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.
MUNFORD 16, HANDLEY 3: Brooklyn Pressley went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs, and Munford upped to 25-6.
Madison Arnold went 4-for-4 with two doubles, four runs and two RBIs, and Chloe Pickette went 3-for-3 with two doubles, four runs and four RBIs. Ashtyn Bishop went 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
Arnold got the win, allowing six hits, three earned runs and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings.
GLENCOE 3, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 0: Evelyn Nowak pitched a perfect game with nine strikeouts, and Glencoe upped to 9-1. She also had a double and two RBIs. Zowie Morris added a single and a run.
