Donoho tennis wins all but one court in Red Wilder Invitational. Alexandria edges Jacksonville in baseball thriller, Alexandria softball goes 4-1 at Albertville and so much more.

Going cross court for tennis and around the horn with Saturday’s area high school baseball and softball:

Tennis

Donoho’s boys and girls finished off a dominant run Saturday on the way to winning the annual Red Wilder Invitational and Anniston Country Club.

The Red Wilder serves the de facto Calhoun County championship for the count’s tennis teams. Donoho and Oxford field boys’ and girls’ teams, and Jacksonville has a girls’ team.

The girls won all nine courts: No. 1 singles Avery Barnett, No. 2 singles Natalie Rodgers, No. 3 singles Claire Tollison, No. 4 singles Elizabeth Downey, No. 5 singles Bentlee Pahman, No. 6 singles Harper Barnet, No. 1 doubles Rodgers/Barnett, No. 2 doubles Tollison/Downey and No. 3 doubles Barnett/Pahman.

Donoho’s boys won eight of nine courts: No. 1 singles Rishi Reddy, No. 2 singles Ethan Crawford, No. 3 singles Payton Butterworth, No. 4 singles Chris Perkins, No. 5 singles Aiden Thompson, No. 6 singles J.R. Sobers, No. 1 doubles Foster Payton/Crawford and No. 2 doubles Reddy/Thompson.

Oxford’s Payton Butterworth/Cullen Noyola won No. 3 doubles.

“I’m very proud of the boys for their back to back county championships and of the girls for winning their 11th consecutive county championship,” Donoho coach Kristie Alderman said. “The seniors on the boys team this year have been exceptional leaders and have certainly lead the program back to success. 

“The girls team has no seniors but several strong leaders that strive to maintain the level of success the program has had over the years.” 

Baseball

ALEXANDRIA 7, JACKSONVILLE 6: Alexandria responded to Jacksonville’s five-run seventh inning with five runs of its own, walking off when two runs scored on Weston Haynes’ two-out single.

All five Alexandria runs came with two outs. The rally included RBI singles from Knox Faulkner and Brody Andrews.

Cooper Smith was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.

Jacksonville’s five-run seventh featured Sam Parker-Wagoner’s two-run home run, Nick Johnson’s two-run double and Luke Richardon’s RBI single.

Alexandria’s Emmitt Waldrep went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run, and Cooper Smith had a single and two RBIs. Garrett Haynes went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Andrews and Faulkner each went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Sawyer Coggins went 2-for-4.

For Jacksonville, Johnson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run, and Richardson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Parker-Wagoner went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Cole Wheeler got the win, working the final two innings in relief with one strikeout. Starter J.D. Copeland spread out six hits while giving up no earned runs or walks with one strikeout in five innings.

MUNFORD 3, WHITE PLAINS 1: Landon Gallahair homered with two RBIs, and Munford improved to 8-8.

Braylon Stewart went 2-for-4 with a double and a run, and Braydon Nichols went 2-for-4. B Cooper had a double and an RBI.

Starter Christian Fisher got the win, allowing three hits, one walk and no runs with six strikeouts in four innings.

White Plains’ Keaton Lindsey went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

GRISSOM 7-16, OXFORD 6-8:  Oxford fell to Grissom 7-6 and ??-? and stands at 17-10 on the season.

Ayden Noyola went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI in the first game. Marcus Lawler had a double and an RBI, and Rocco Maniscalco had a single, an RBI and a run. 

Canaan Whitman went 2-for-3, and Oxford got an RBI apiece from Zakaree Newton and Bryson Bradford.

In the second game, Maniscalco had a single and two RBIs. Bryson Bradford had a double, two runs and an RBI. Lawler, Noyola and Asa Burns each had a single and an RBI.

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 26, JOHN CARROLL CATHOLIC 16: Wil Chadwick went 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and four runs, and Westbrook pounded out 14 hits while taking advantage of nine walks and nine errors.

The Warriors scored nine runs in the third inning, seven in the second and five in the sixth, overcoming John Carroll’s 15 hits. Westbrook gave up just four walks and two errors.

Brody Blevins went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Bo Kilgo went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Brodie Johnson went 2-for-5 with five runs and two RBIs.

Softball

ALEXANDRIA WINS TWO OF THREE : The Valley Cubs (19-8) beat Sardis 12-2 and Spain Park 5-4 and fell to Central-Phoenix City 16-1, finishing off a 4-1 run Friday and Saturday at Albertville.

Boo Boo Bright went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run against Sardis. Charlee Parris went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI.

Cali Hess went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Katelynn Robertson went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Kate Wheeler went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

Khloe England got the win, allowing three hits, one walk and no earned runs in four innings.

Alexandria scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth against Spain Park, walking it off when two runs scored on a Robrtson’s single.

Bright went 3-for-3 with a single, and Reece Carr went 2-for-2 with a run. Hess doubled with an RBI.

Carr got the win, spreading out six hits, three earned runs and two walks with six strikeouts over five innings.

Parris went 3-for-3 with a run against Central. 

HOKES BLUFF : The Eagles (15-10)  beat Cedar Bluff 9-2 and Collinsville 6-5 and beat Cedar Bluff. 10-0

Hokes Bluff enjoyed a six-run first inning and cruised in the first game with Cedar Bluff. Lainey Kate Beggs went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI, and Makenna Bennich went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Sawyer Colvard went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Addison Simmons had a double, two runs and an RBI, and Rylee Hill had a double and a run. 

Lilli Wood had a single and two RBIs, and Lacey Grace Hall had a single, a run and an RBI.

The Eagles scored four runs in the third inning against Collinsville then walked it off on Bennich’s fourth-inning single.

Beggs homered and had three RBIs, and Hill had a double, a run and an RBI. Colvard had a single and RBI.

Hall got the win, allowing seven hits, four earned runs and two walks with five strikeouts in four innings.

Bennich finished off a big day in the second game with Cedar Bluff, going 3-for-3 with a home run, six RBIs and three runs. Beggs had a double and two RBIs, and Simmons went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Hall allowed three hits and one walk with three strikeouts over four innings. 

CENTRAL-PHOENIX CITY 6, OHATCHEE 4: Reese Steward went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Alanah Fitch had a double and a run, and Blaze Steward had a triple and a run.

Makayla Brackett spread out seven hits, five walks and two earned runs with four strikeouts in six innings.

Ohatchee is 17-6.
