Talkin’ Anniston

With offseason emphasis on size and physicality to match with returning array of skill talent, Anniston looks to build on last year’s quarterfinal run.

Editor’s note: This is the first installment of Talkin’ Football 2025. East Alabama Sports Today editor Joe Medley will do on-campus interviews at all football-playing schools in Calhoun County. The package will include a video interview, interesting facts and Joe’s take for EA+ subscribers. Today’s visit: the Anniston Bulldogs.

ANNISTON — The mannequin in Anniston’s locker room, who never graduates, now wears a a mock-up black jersey that could give a peak to the Bulldogs’ uniform future.

He also wears a thick gold chain and a large, Anniston “A” charm. It’s the temporary award for making a big play.

Look behind the yet unnamed, pedestaled mannequin and see polished wooden lockers, complete with connected seats and black, log cushions. Not a helmet is out of place.

Cardinal-red helmets rest in the upper helmet cubbies.

Alternate black helmets hang on hooks in the lower compartments.

Rico Jackson became the new steward for a program he inherited in 2023. He’s set to coach his third Anniston team, one he built.
Much like the year-old improved decor in the Bulldogs’ inner sanctum, Jackson sees a team that’s ready for primetime.

More details. comments, a video interview and interesting facts about the Anniston Bulldogs are available for EA+ subscribers.
