Pleasant Valley tunes up for its area tournament and beyond by winning Cullman Invitational, closes in on 50 wins

CULLMAN – Reigning county champion Pleasant Valley tuned up for the post-season and moved closer to the 50-win plateau by winning the Cullman Pre-Area Invitational Saturday.
The Lady Raiders (49-6) went 6-0 in the tournament, dropping only two sets. They beat 1A Meek in the final 25-21, 25-15.
They also took down Hillcrest (25-23, 25-10); Madison County (25-18, 25-15); Brewer (20-25, 25-21, 15-11); Mortimer Jordan in the quarterfinals (19-25, 25-14, 15-13) and Boaz in the semifinals (25-21, 25-15).
The Lady Raiders’ first shot to hit 50 comes Tuesday in the finals of the Class 3A Area 10 tournament against the winner of the Glencoe-Piedmont match.
“I’ve never had 50 wins before,” PV coach Dana Bryant said. “It’s kind of a big deal I think for any team.”
