HEFLIN — Pace Ozmint rushed for 147 yards and caught three of quarterback Chase Wilson’s four touchdown passes Friday night as No. 5-3A Glencoe rolled past No. 6-4A Cleburne County 38-20 in a battle of ranked playoff-bound teams.

Ozmint accounted for 319 yards of offense. He opened the scoring on a 39-yard pass from Wilson late in the first quarter and later scored on passes of 33 and 57 yards. Nine of Ozmint’s 19 receptions this season have been for a touchdown.

Wilson was 5 of 7 for 169 yards in the game for a passer rating of 462.8 (153.27 NFL). He has an efficiency rating of 145.69 for the season (88.87 NFL).

Mario Smith scored two short-yardage touchdowns for Cleburne County (8-2). Json Henson was the Tigers’ leading rusher with 64 yards on 15 carries. Quarterback Brock Swafford was 12 of 31 passing for 180 yards and a touchdown. Jeremiah Blake caught four balls for 80 yards and a touchdown.

Glencoe (9-1) set the stage for its sixth straight win by scoring 17 points in the second quarter. The teams combined for 24 points in the final three minutes of the half.

The Tigers (8-2) had won eight in a row.

Cleburne County’s Austin Harler led all tacklers with 17 (13 solo). Smith and Chad Brown each had 11. Noah Hauk had 12 tackles for Glencoe.

Both teams will be hosting first-round playoff games Friday. Glencoe plays Colbert County while Cleburne County plays Wilson.

PIEDMONT 30, ONEONTA 0

PIEDMONT – Darnell Jackson returned a punt for a touchdown, Taylor Hayes threw for two scores and ran for third, and the Piedmont defense pitched another shutout in a 30-0 victory over Oneonta Friday that wrapped the regular season.

By all accounts it was a comfortable tune-up for the Bulldogs’ Class 3A playoff opener next week against Lexington (6-4).

The fourth-ranked Bulldogs (9-1) amassed 267 yards of total offense while holding Oneonta to 72 yards net in posting the third shutout of their current five-game winning streak.

Jackson opened the scoring when he returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown with 10:16 left in the first quarter. Easton Kirk ran their lead to 10-0 with a 29-yard field goal with 1:05 left in the quarter.

The offense scored its first touchdown late in the first half when Hayes threw a 14-yard pass to Deonta Alexander. In the second half, Hayes ran for 11 yards for a touchdown and threw a 29-yard pass to Case Keener for another score.

Hayes was 13 of 19 passing for 149 yards. Jackson was the Bulldogs’ leading rusher with 48 yards on 11 carries.

Next week’s opponent, Lexington, is the fourth seed out of Region 8. The Golden Bears, in the playoffs for the eighth year in a row, were off Friday. They opened the season 4-0, but have lost four of their last six.

WEAVER 45, WHITE PLAINS 14

WEAVER – Delo Forbes rushed for 101 yards and three first-quarter touchdowns as the Bearcats (5-5) closed their regular season with a victory and finished it with a .500 or better record for the first time since 2011.

They now have a date at perennial power Madison Academy in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Forbes scored on runs of 56, 10 and 26 yards as the Bearcats opened a 21-7 lead. Quarterback Dalton Hamby threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter as they extended the lead to 42-7 at halftime.

Hamby completed seven of 10 passes in the game for 154 yards.

The Bearcats also took advance of three White Plains turnovers

White Plains rushed for 225 yards as a team and had four runners gain at least 40 yards. Macy Carr was the Wildcats’ leading rusher with 77 yards on three carries; the bulk of yardage came on an 85-yard touchdown run with eight minutes to play.

Brycen Longley (56 yards), Gage Whiteside (44) and Blake Roszell (43) all had at least seven carries. Whiteside scored their other touchdown.

The Wildcats finished their first season under coach Chris White 1-9.

DONOHO 28, COOSA CHRISTIAN 6

The Falcons (3-6) found four different ways to score touchdowns to close coach Andy McWilliams’ first season on a winning note.

Robert Clausen scored on Ross Svensen’s only completion and on the ensuing defensive stand raced 66 yards with an interception return. Garrett Steed scored on a punt return and Tej Patel scored on a fumble return.

Steed was the Falcons’ leading rusher with 68 yards on 11 carries. He and Jake Kaplan shared the team lead with 11 tackles, while Walton Montgomery and Reaves Nelson each had eight.

The Falcons ended the season on a two-game winning streak. The Conquerors finished 0-10 and have lost 16 in a row.

VERBENA 46, JCA 28

VERBENA – When Verbena got the ball it found the end zone quickly and that spelled a quick end for Jacksonville Christian.

The Red Devils (7-3) scored their first three touchdowns on three plays and needed only six plays to open a 27-0 first-quarter lead. They opened the scoring with a reverse pass on their first play from scrimmage and added two long runs with their next two snaps.

The Thunder (4-5) got on the board early in the second quarter when Andre Garner threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Antwon Fegans.

Reed Murphy had a hand in JCA’s other three scores. He had touchdown runs of 8 and 2 yards, and threw a 14-yard halfback pass to Walker Messer for a touchdown in the closing seconds.

Murphy rushed for 141 yards on 20 carries. Fegans had all three of JCA’s receptions for 77 yards.
