Spring roundup

Piedmont, Hokes Bluff, Westbrook Christian win in baseball, and Jacksonville, White, Plains split. Wellborn wins two in softball, had Hokes Bluff wins Etowah County title.

Going around the horn with Saturday’s area high school baseball and softball:

Baseball

PIEDMONT 19, SPRING GARDEN 1: Ethan Tidwell’s grand slam highlighted Piedmont’s 1-run second inning, and the Bulldogs improved to 15-5.

Tidwell finished 1-for-2 with five RBIs and two runs.

Eli Johnson went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Aliandre Wright went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Carson Cleveland went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Carson Sanders went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and an RBI, and Cole Austin went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI.

Crawford Mallett got the win, allowing three hits, one earned run and no walks with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.

Spring Garden’s Ben Baker had a double and an RBI.   

HOKES BLUFF 16, SPRING GARDEN 5: Bryce Whitaker went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs, and Hokes Bluff upped to 11-9.

Bray Bearden went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs, and Carson Peppers went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Micah Brasher went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Spring Garden’s Brady Ruark went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Clayton Sandler had a double and an RBI. 

GROVE CITY 5, OXFORD 2: Marcus Lawler went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run, but Oxford fell to 15-8. Bryson Bradford went 2-for-3 and pitched a complete game, allowing four hits, one walk and no earned runs with one strikeout in seven innings.

JACKSONVILLE SPLITS: The Golden Eagles lost to Houston 10-8 and beat Marbury 8-1 to reach 8-10 on the season.

Nick Johnson pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts against Marbury. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Matthew Salmon went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, and C Worsham went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Cooper Haynes hit a solo home run.

Luke Richardson, Sam Parker Wagoner and Javin Scott each had a single and an RBI.

Parker-Wagoner had a triple and four RBIs against Houston, and Salmon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Richardson went 1-for-4 with two runs.

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 6, SOUTHSIDE 5: Brody Blevins’ two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning stood up, and Westbrook improved to 10-7. He finished 2-for-4 with two homers, three RBIs and two runs.

Brady Carden went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. and Bo Kilgo had a single and an RBI, and Brodie Johnson had a single and two runs.

Southside’s Carson McGraw went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Alex Brewer went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. W Runyan hit a double.

WHITE PLAINS SPLITS: The Wildcats (7-10) fell to Moody 8–1 and beat Minor 6-4. 

Beau Madrigal had a double, a run and an RBI against Minor, and Colby Jones had a single, a run and an RBI. Matthew Masson and Jacob Stamm each had a double and a run, and Walker Edwards tripled.

Madrigal got the win, allowing three hits with six strikeouts.

Stamm had a single and a run against Moody.

Softball

HOKES BLUFF TAKES TITLE: Hokes Bluff bat Glencoe 10-1, West End-Walnut Grove 4-3 and Sardis 10-5 and won the Etowah County Tournament.

Mazley Ball homered twice with five FBIs against Glencoe, and Lacey Grace Hall went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Makenna Bennich went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Rylee Hill went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Pressley Wall went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Hall pitched a complete-game three-hitter with six strikeouts.

Glencoe’s Victoria Romano had a single and an RBI.

Hall homered while going 2-for-4 with two RBIs against West End, and Ball homered while going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Ball added a triple, a run and an RBI against Sardis, and Hill went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run. Bennich went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Alexis Colvard went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Sawyer Colvard went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Hall got the win, spreading out nine hits with three strikeouts over seven innings.

WELLBORN WINS TWO: Playing at Heflin, Wellborn (5-21) beat Saks 15-5 and Anniston 11-1.

Cassidy Gray went 2-for-3 with a triple, four RBIs and three runs against Saks, and Ansley Greene went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs.

Raelyn Webb went 2-for-3 with a double with two RBIs and a run. Bella Nunez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Addy Bowman had a triple, three runs and two RBIs, and Delilah Talley had a double and a run.

Bowman got the win, pitching a one-hitter with three strikeouts in three innings.

Talley had a single, RBI and a run against Anniston, and Webb had a single and two runs. Gray pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts.

OXFORD DROPS TWO: Playing in the annual Spring Sting at Choccolocco Park, the Yellow Jackets lost to Saraland 6-1 and Smiths Station 6-5 to reach 12-5 on the season.

Charleigh Trotter had a single and an RBI against Saraland, and Haleigh Pruitt had a triple and a run.

Madison Murphy went 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles, two RBIs and a run against Smiths Station, and Jayla Jackson went 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

WHITE PLAINS SPLITS: The Wildcats beat Hamilton 12-1 and lost to St. Clair County 12-3 in the Spring Sting at Choccolocco Park to reach 18-11 on the season.

Kinsleigh Gross pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts against Hamilton, and Jaylie Holt went 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and a run. Karli Otwell had a double, two RBIs and a run, and Emma Tidwell had two RBIs. Carli Fritts went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Carleigh-Anne Green went 2-for-3 with three runs. Piper Thompson had a triple and a run.

Otwell went 2-for-2 with an RBI against St. Clair County, and Holt went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Adams went 2-for-3 with a double.

CENTRAL-CLAY LOSES TWO OF THREE : The Vols (6-11) lost to Handley 3-1, beat Valley 4-2 then lost to Horseshoe Bend 6-1.

Lily McCain had a double and RBI against Valley, and A Harris doubled. Ava Adams added an RBI, and Lauryn Reed allowed three hits with six strikeouts in four innings in the win.

Adams went 2-for-3 against Handley, and McCain limited the Tigers to two hits with two strikeouts in five innings.

Harris doubled with an RBI against Horseshoe Bend.

HANDLEY LOSES TWO OF THREE: The Tigers (8-9) beat Central-Clay 3-1 and fell to Horseshoe Bend 12-0 and Valley 12-5.

Anna Kate Cole had a single and two RBIs against Central-Clay, and Breydan Watkins went 2-for-3 with a run. Rayna Smith got the win, limiting the Vols to five hits with five strikeouts.

Watkins and Cole each had a single against Horseshoe Bend, and Watkins went 3-for-3 with a run against Valley. Smith went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

CLEBURNE COUNTY: The Tigers beat Saks 14-0 to reach 6-11 on the season.

Kyree Hilburn pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts against Saks. She also hit a double and had five RBIs.

Macey East went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Alleigh Prince had a double and an RBI, and Lola Shelton contributed two runs and an RBI.

RANDOLPH COUNTY SPLITS: The Tigers beat Anniston 18-0 and lost to Ragland 6-3.

Abi Waters and Lizzie Milam combined to hold Anniston to one hit, and Milam went 2-for-3 with two doubles, five RBIs and two runs. Lydia Parmer had a single and two RBIs. Gracie Huckeba went 1-for-1 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Bryer Thompson went 1-for-1 with three runs. Emmy Maffeo had a double, a run and an RBI.

Hannah Parmer had a double and RBI against Ragland.
