Spring roundup

Oxford baseball wins two in South Carolina, and Alexandria softball finishes stay in Gulf Shores on a high note. Lots more baseball, softball and soccer inside.

Going around the horn with Wednesday’s area high school baseball and softball action:

Baseball

OXFORD WINS TWO: Playing in South Carolina, Oxford beat Easley 11-4 and D.W. Daniel 11-0 to improve to 11-6.

Zakaree Newton went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs against Easley, and Rocco Maniscalco went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs.

Bryson Bradford went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Canaan Whitman had a double and an RBI. Tripp Adams had a single, a run and an RBI.

Ayden Noyola got the win, allowing three hits, two earned runs and no walks with two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.

Maniscalco went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run against D.W. Daniel, and Whitman went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Marcus Lawler went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run, and Chase Williams went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Adams and Charlie Maniscalco each had an RBI and a run. 

Jeremiah Garrett got the win, allowing two hits, six walks but no runs with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

JACKSONVILLE 11, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0: Luke Richardson and John Ducar combined to hold Cleburne County to two hits, and Jacksonville improved to 6-6.

Richardson got the win, allowing two hits and no walks with nine strikeouts in four innings. Ducar allowed one hit with no walks and one strikeout in one inning of relief.

Ducar also went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs, and the Golden Eagles got three RBIs and two runs. Nick Johnson singled with two RBIs, and Jackson Askew singled with an RBI.

Richardson went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Matthew Salmon scored two runs.

Brayden Maduro and S Hunt had Cleburne County’s hits. Maduro’s hit was a double.

OHATCHEE 6, BREWBAKER TECH 4: Ohatchee’s Sawyer Beegle went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and the Indians won at Choccolocco Park.

Kaleb Brunner went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Xavier Luna went 1-for-2 with three runs. Ethan Jones had two RBIs, and Alex Boling had one.

Luna got the win, allowing three hits, no walks and no earned runs with four strikeouts in three innings.

PLEASANT VALLEY SPLITS: The Raiders beat Waverly (Tenn.) Central 6-2 and fell to White House-Heritage 14-4 to reach 8-5 on the season.

Wesley Wheeler hit a solo home run against Waverly Central, and Jackon Acker went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Cooper Dougal added a single and RBI, and L Beason went 2-for-2 with a run.

Jake Barnwell got the win, allowing five hits, three walks and one earned run with nine strikeouts in six innings. Dougal pitched a perfect inning of relief.

Nic Acker went 2-for-3 against White House-Heritage, Peyton Mann had a single, a run and an RBI, and Wheeler went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Dougal and Greer Laros each had a single and a run.

CENTRAL-CLAY 7, HANDLEY 1: Kamden Mullins had two RBIs, and Central-Clay improved to 8-4.

J.T. Wilkerson went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Gabe Harris had a single and an RBI.

Four Vols pitchers combined to hold Handley to seven hits and no earned runs. Hudson Foster got the win, allowing two hits, no walks and no runs with two strikeouts in three innings.

Handley’s Luke Murr went 2-for-4, and Cordan Patterson went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

HOKES BLUFF 4, ASHVILLE 2: Micah Brasher went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Hokes Bluff improved to 7-7. Brasher also pitched a three-hitter, allowing two earned runs and two walks with nine strikeouts in seven innings.

Carson Peppers went 2-for-3 with a run, and Tanner Rutledge went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Preston Griffith went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Ashville’s Justin Henderson singled with an RBI. 

DESTIN 11, HOPE CHRISTIAN 0: Cayden Slick had a double, and Levi Franklin went 2-for-2, but Hope fell to 9-5.

Softball

ALEXANDRIA 11, GREENVILLE (TENN.) 3: Cali Hess went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, five RBIs and three runs, and the Valley Cubs upped to 11-7 with a victory in the Gulf Coast Classic at Gulf Shores..

Boo Boo Bright went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs, and Charlee Parris went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four runs.

Jacee Brooks went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ryan Lumpkin went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Khloe England got the win, allowing five hits, no walks and two earned runs with four strikeouts.

ARDMORE 7, WHITE PLAINS 6: P Pennington’s sacrifice fly scored B Dempsey in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Ardmore prevailed in the Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores.

White Plains’ Sara Kate Adams went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs. Piper Thompson went 2-for-4 with a run. Karli Otwell and Carleigh-Anne Green each went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and A Prichard had a single and an RBI.

Fritts pitched 7 2/3 innings, spreading out eight hits, four walks and two earned runs  with 10 strikeouts.  

The Wildcats are 15-8.

WAVERLY (TENN.) CENTRAL 5, WELLBORN 0: Cassidy Gray pitched a solid outing, allowing five hits, two walks and one earned run with seven strikeouts in five innings, but the Panthers had no hits and fell to 2-20.

HOKES BLUFF 18, GLENCOE 6: Mazely Ball went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs and three RBIs, and Hokes Bluff improved to 7-7.

The Eagles’ other top performers: Rylee Hill 2-for-5 with four RBIs; Makenna Bennich 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run; Lacey Grace Hall 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs; Lainey Kate Beggs 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI; Pressley Wall 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI; and Addison Simmons 1-for-5 with a triple, three runs and an RBI.

Hall got the win, allowing seven hits, three walks and four earned runs with 11 strikeouts in seven innings.

Glencoe’s Andeemae Skinner and Kynsley Freeman each went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Freeman had a double.

Zowie Morris went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Riley Brothers went 2-for-3 with a double.

The Yellow Jackets at 5-6.

LINCOLN 10, ST. CLAIR COUNTY 8: Lincoln scored four runs in the top of the seventh to lead 10-6 and held off a St. Clair County rally to improve to 12-6.

Lincoln’s Chandler Stephens went 2-for-4 with three  RBIs and a run, and Aubrey Machen went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs and two RBIs. Shelby Williams went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Kalia Fowles had two runs and an RBI.

WOODLAND 5, RANBURNE 1: Woodland’s Railey Williams pitched a one-hitter with a walk and 12 strikeouts, and the Bobcats improved to 6-0-1.

Williams went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Lucy Phillips had a triple and a run, and Lily Kirby doubled with an RBI.

Ranburne’s Dakota Martin had an RBI, and K.K. Rollins singled for the Bulldogs’ hit.

Soccer

DONOHO GIRLS 5, TEMPLE (GA.) 0: Broooke Vandiber scored three goals, and Donoho improved to 9-2 overall while running its season goal differential to 52-9.

Katylen McMorris and Sophia Sanders added a goal apiece, and Sanders had an assist. Hania Rehman dished out two assists, and Lauren Wigley had one to run her team-high season total to 11. Morgan Perry also had an assist.

Pierce Lawler had one save.
