Golf

WHITE PLAINS: The Wildcats’ girls won the Eagle Cup, hosted by Oak Mountain High School, over Monday and Tuesday at Oak Mountain State Park, and the boys finished fourth.

White Plains’ Maylee Stewart was low medalist for Monday, shooting 71. She also teamed with Madelyn Faulkner to win the two-person portion (71-74–145), and White Plains won the team competition at 294, edging Oak Mountain by two strokes.

White Plains’ team scored included 76-74—149 from Cam McElroy-Aubree Cobb.

As for Tuesday’s regular team format, Stewart led the field as the Wildcats prevailed, shooting a 74. McElroy shot 81, Cobb 85 and Faulkner 93.

White Plains’ boys finished fourth in team competition, led by Cam Hurst’s 78. Wyatt Cotney, Dison Durden and Ben Miller shot 82, J.T. McElroy 87 and Easton Wright 88.

Baseball

GLENCOE, CHEROKEE COUNTY: Glencoe beat Cherokee County 14-1 in the first game of the double header, and Cherokee County win the nightcap 5-4.

Cherokee County’s C Hill pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh inning of the second game, striking out Jaxon Hollis after falling behind 3-0 in the count.

Cherokee County took the lead on A Bobbitt’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. This after Glencoe tied the game with two runs  in the top of the sixth, coming when Mintz and Luke Johnson scored on wild pitches.

Adam Griffith had a single and an RBI, and Nick Black got the win, striking out four batters while allowing two walks and one hit in two innings.

Glencoe’s Cooper Gomez went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Hollis had a double, a run and an RBI. Mintz went 1-for-4 with two runs.

Bryce Borntrager went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs in the first game, and Hollis went 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs  

Daniel Bradley went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Gomez went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Johnson had a double, two RBIs and a run, and Jacob Loftis went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Justin Rogers went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Bradley allowed two hits, two walks and one earned run with one strikeout in four innings, and Borntrager pitched a perfect inning of relief.

Griffith accounted for both Cherokee County hits, going 2-for-2.

SOUTHSIDE 6, LINCOLN 2: Southside’s Shelby Houston pitched a complete game, allowing four hits, three walks and one earned run with eight strikeouts in seven innings. He also hit a double.

Abe Martin went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kolt Johnson and Carson McGraw each had a single, a run and an RBI. Will Stapleton and Sam Berry each singled with an RBI. 

Lincoln’s Nick Catlett had a single and an RBI. Kade Korreckt, Christian Bean and Charles Ramsey each singled.

WHITE PLAINS SPLITS: The Wildcats (6-6) beat Hale County 17-0 and lost to Pike Road 8-3.

Colby Jones pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks against Hale County, and Logan Laube went 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs. Matthew Masson went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Walker Edwards went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Caden Foster had two RBIs.

Keaton Lindsey went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Crew Martin went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI against Pike Road, and Laube had an RBI. 

WEAVER 14, JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 0: Weaver’s Tucker Michaels pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and one walk. He also went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Peyton Andrews went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run, and Landon Free went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs.

Braylen Gregory had a single and two RBIs, and Connor Hyatt had a single, a run and an RBI. Lyric Newman went 2-for-3 with two runs.

JCA’s Bryson Dowdey singled.

CLEBURNE COUNTY 9, WADLEY 2: Cleburne County’s Aiden Laminack went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Easton Thompson had a single and two RBIs.

Brayden Maduro and Luke Smith each had a single and an RBI.

Maduro got the win, allowing one hit, six walks and no runs with five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.

Wadley’s Brody Morgan had an RBI. Ethan Hall had a single and a run, and Trenten Reece singled.

SAND ROCK 11, DONOHO 9:  Donoho’s Luke Farrell went 3-for-4 with a double and a run. Sam Montgomery went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Fisher White went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Cooper Christopher went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Gager Church went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Owen Watts had a double and a run.

ASHEVILLE (N.C.) 3, OXFORD 1: Marcus Lawler had Oxford’s RBI, while Ayden Noyola and Charlie Maniscalco each had two hits. Canaan Whitman hit a double.

Maniscalco struck out five batters while allowing two walks and a hit and no runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

PRYOR 3, PLEASANT VALLEY 0: Pleasant Valley’s Jackson Acker pitched a solid outing in defeat, spreading out five hits, four walks and one earned run with six strikeouts in seven innings. Wesley Wheeler, Brody Barnwell and Greer Laros each had a single.

Softball

ALEXANDRIA: The Valley Cubs (10-7) beat Anderson County (Tenn.) 6-2 and lost Clarksville (Tenn.) 6-5 during the second day of the Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores.

Katelynn Robertson went 2-for-2 with three RBIs against Anderson, and Reece Carr went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Charlee Parris went 2-for-3.

Carr spread out eight hits, one walk and two earned runs over six innings with six strikeouts.

Marley Edge went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI against Clarksville. Parris had a triple, two RBIs and a run, and Carr had a single, a run and an RBI. Ryan Lumpkin went 2-for-3 with a double.

Carr allowed six hits, five earned runs and two walks with two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

WHITE PLAINS: The Wildcats (15-7) fell to Thompson 13-0 and Brookwood 7-0 in the second day of the Gulf Coast Classic.

Karli Otwell went 2-for-2 with two doubles against Thompson, and Carleigh-Anne Green went 1-for-2. Jaylie Holt went 2-for-3 with a double against Brookwood, and the Wildcats got a single apiece from Green and Carli Fritts.

WELLBORN: The Panthers (2-19) fell to Ardmore 16-1 and West Marion 17-0 in the second day of the Gulf Coast Classic.

Brylee Ward had a double against Ardmore, and Cassidy Gray singled and scored a run. Addy Bowman also had a single.

Brylee Luker singled against West Marion.

SUSAN MOORE 11, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 4: Westbrook’s Parker Borders went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Alexis Crossley went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Soccer

DONOHO GIRLS 10, CHILDERSBURG 0: Sophia Sanders scored three goals and dished out an assists, and Donoho improved to 8-2 overall, 3-0 area.

Lauren Wigley contriibuted two goals and two assists, and Addison West had a goal and an assist. Brooke Vandiber, Morgan Perry and Isata Sesay added a goal apiece, and goalie Anna McGehee had the rare combination of a goal and a save.

Chloe Melton had two assists.

JACKSONVILLE BOYS 6, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 0: Jack Thomas scored two goals and dished out three assists, and Jacksonville rolled. Colin Thurman and Edgar Santillan each added a goal and an assist, while Miles Sawyer and Christian Garner also scored. Cooper Morgan contributed an assist, and goalkeeper Jackson Patterson recorded five saves.

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 2, JACKSONVILLE GIRLS 0: Goalkeeper Neveah Nicholson turned 19 saves, but Jacksonville fell to 8-1.
