Oxford makes history. Now, let’s make the case for Yellow Jackets as state’s best team in all classes.

BIRMINGHAM — The amazing team that just gave Oxford High its first state title in boys’ basketball has a narrative doppelganger in recent Yellow Jacket history.

Just three years ago, the Oxford baseball team that won the school’s second Class 6A state title in that sport grew its narrative with continued dominance through the season. Those Yellow Jackets won 39 games, including their final 19 games.

They won all 10 games through five playoff series.

They grew their narrative with a roster that included that season’s Alabama Mr. Baseball and a soon-to-be second-round draft pick.

The narrative that grew around that 2023 Oxford baseball team didn’t come fully into focus until the season ended, but it grew all the same … best team in the state in all classifications.

Let the argument begin for the 2025-26 Oxford boys’ basketball team, which played its way into that discussion on the way to its ??-?? victory over Cullman in Saturday’s Class 6A final in Legacy Arena.
