JCA’s ‘team of firsts’ downs state power Spring Garden, claims first area championship in girls’ basketball in 15 years.

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville Christian’s “team of firsts” pulled off one to remember Monday.

Most valuable player Addy Lee scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Modasti Carr turned in 18 points and 20 rebounds as the Thunder unseated state power Spring Garden 48-40 in the Class 1A, Area 12 championship at JCA.

The Thunder’s first area title since 2011, when JCA head coach Katy Miller was a senior player, comes two weeks after they pulled off their first win in the Calhoun County Tournament since 2020.
