Calhoun County champion Alexandria defeats Ashville, Weaver in reach semifinals of the Class 1A-4A state duals tournament. Weaver beats West End in first round.

ASHVILLE — Alexandria’s boys beat Ashville and Weaver in Friday’s first and second rounds of the Class 1A-4A state duals tournament, advancing to the semifinals.
The Valley Cubs will face Deshler in the semifinals Jan. 23 in Birmingham CrossPlex.
Alexandria beat Ashville 58-14 in the first round and Weaver 45-23 in the second round.
Against Ashville, the Valley Cubs got pins from Alex Lee (108 pounds), Jeremy Lambert (122), Dion Guy (146), Ethan Maxwell (167) and Nehemiah Brewster (192). Hudson Hartzog (128) won by technical fall, and Alexandria got major decisions from Jaden Whittaker (140) and Kion Guy (152). Christian Jones (159) won a 10-4 decision.
Ashville forfeited two matches.
Lambert, Hartzog, Kion Guy and Owen Cromer (217) got pins against Weaver. Kion Guy also won by technical fall in the 159 class, and Brewster got a technical fall. Johnathan Santos (134) won by major decision. Whittaker, Ryker Houston (140) and Riley Bookout (108) won decisions.
WEAVER: Weaver beat West End-Walnut Grove 69-7 in the first round before falling to Alexandria in the second round.
Against West End, Weaver got pins from Jonathan Gochenouer (122), Aiden Overton (128), Haiden Hise (140), A Lindquist (152) and Zach Hooks (217). Zane Hairrell (115), Peyton Andrews (134) and Gabriel Snyder (159) won by technical fall.
West End forfeited four matches.
Hairrell and Hooks got pins against Alexandria, and Dalton Fink (192) won by technical fall.
