Alexander leads the way as Oxford’s boys run winning streak to 11 games, reach final of HCS Classic. Alexandria boys win at Supreme Courts.

HUNTSVILLE — Jaylen Alexander hit six out seven free throws in the decisive fourth quarter, and Oxford’s boys beat Mae Jemison 60-56 in Saturday night’s semifinals of the HCS Classic at Huntsville High School.

The Yellow Jackets (14-3) ran their winning streak to 11 games headed into Monday’s 5 p.m. final against host Huntsville.

Alexander finished with a team-high 20 points. Mae Jemison got a game-high 23 points from Cortez Hudson but just two points in the fourth quarter. Oxford outscored Mae Jemison 14-9 in the final quarter.

Marcus Perry Jr. hit two 3-pointers on the way to 12 points, and Caileb Wilson added 11 points. 

Earlier Saturday, Alexander hit three 3-pointers on the way to 29 points as Oxford beat Hale County (Ga.) 67-46. The Yellow Jackets also got two 3-pointers and 13 points apiece from Wilson and Perry.

ALEXANDRIA 51, NEW HOPE 35: Playing in the Supreme Courts Tournament at Guntersville, Alexandria got 15 points from Royce Trantham and improved to 8-3.

Trantham scored 13 of his points in the second half.

Cole Wheeler hit four 3-pointers to account for his 12 points, and M.J. Morris scored eight of his nine points in the second half.

Alexandria led 16-13 at halftime but outscored 23-15 in the third quarter.

Girls

CLAY-CHALKVILLE 54, JACKSONVILLE 33: Jacksonville went without four regulars because of illness, injury and holiday travel and fell to 13-2 on the season.

Not available were Ontarriah Braxton, Mya Swain, Abigaila McNeal and Zion Smith.

Jayci Taylor hit two 3-pointers and led Jacksonville with 15 points.
