JACKSONVILLE — Jax State signed added 25 high school signees in the early signing period for football Wednesday, including 17 three-star prospects.
The three-star list includes Jacksonville Christian quarterback Noah Lee and Piedmont wide receiver Rollie Pinto.
Lee, one of two quarterbacks signed, will have his signing ceremony Thursday at JCA, and Pinto will have his signing ceremony Friday at Piedmont.
First-year Jax State coach said this class is in keeping with his desire to build the foundation of the program on high school players, with an emphasis on a five-and-a-half-hour radius around Jax State’s campus. Of the 25 signees, 22 came from that radius, including 10 prospects from Alabama, nine from Florida and four from Georgia.
They also signed one player from Maryland and one from Ohio.
“We felt there were three things we needed to focus on,” Kelly said. “We needed to focus on size, length and speed, and we felt like that’s what we were looking for in the evaluation process.
“We got some very productive players, but the thing I’m most proud of, all of these guys come from winning programs. … I think recruiting winners is important.”
He also said more could come.
“There are a couple of guys out there, and I can’t speak to their names, that they might’ve had some issues with a couple of other schools,” Kelly said. “Big-time players that we could add in the next week or however many days that we’ve got to sign. We’re still in contact with those guys.
“I don’t know how many we’ll sign in the February class. It’s a little different than last year because of us being here for a year. We’ll probably work our needs in the portal for the next go-around.”
Here’s what Kelly said about Lee and Pinto:

NOAH LEE
Kelly: “Noah is a very good athlete. He comes from a very athletic family. Both his mom (Brooke) and dad (Steven) were very good athletes, and they are great people as well. He’s got a sister (Addy) that’s an incredible athlete. Noah is a really good athlete.
“When I look at a quarterback, the first thing I want to know is, does he make good decisions? He does that. … He’s very intelligent. He’s got arm talent, and he’s got good hand talent. Hand talent means you’re accurate.
“It doesn’t matter eight guys or 11 guys, for a quarterback, he’s still able to do that. Now, there’s things that he’ll have to learn. There are different looks that he’s going to see. Because he can process, that’s going to be an advantage for him.”

ROLLIE PINTO
Kelly: “We’ve been recruiting him really since the day that I got here. We knew about him early. We’ve watched him compete, watched him play. He also is a very competitive young man, can do a lot of things, but we think he’s going to be able to help us at receiver. We just want to be able to get the ball in his hands.
“You watch guys that play with the ball in their hands, and I’m a firm believer, when you do it in high school, you’re going to do it in college. If you’re doing it in college, you’re going to be able to do it at the next level.’
