Pleasant Valley wins in Herbert’s debut as Raiders’ head coach. Lee, Hudson power JCA. White Plains boys up to 5-1. Donoho wins in OT. Marks, Miles power Weaver girls, and JCA girls 4-0.

WEAVER — Pleasant Valley’s Marcus Herbert era began with a victory Monday.

Jake Barnwell hit a long 3-pointer with 5.4 seconds left, and the Raiders edged Weaver 40-38 at Weaver, winning in Herbert’s first game as their head coach.

Pleasant Valley hired Herbert in March to replace Brad Hood, who announced in February that he would step back from a head-coaching role. Herbert, a Weaver graduate, coached at Weaver and B.B. Comer before returning to home to Calhoun County to coach at Pleasant Valley.

Barnwell’s game-winning three was his fourth of the game. He finished with 12 points.

Pleasant Valley’s Braxton Salster scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Mason Myers also scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers.

Idris Nira and D.J. Marbury led Weaver with nine points apiece.

The Bearcats missed 15 of 21 free throws and went 0-for-4 in the final 15 seconds.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 68, WELLBORN 39: Noah Lee will sign his national letter of intent to play football for Jacksonville State on Wednesday, but he took care of basketball business Monday.

The senior scored 25 points to go with 21 rebounds to lead JCA past Wellborn. He also had six steals and six assists. 

Lee surpassed 1,000 career points and rebounds in the season’s first two weeks.

Wil Hudson added 22 points Monday. Bryson Dowdey had seven rebounds to go with his six points, and Jack Henry Harris turned in nine rebounds. Anthony Gooch had six steals and six assists.

WHITE PLAINS 69, FAITH CHRISTIAN 25: White Plains’ Bruce Downey led all scorers with 19 points in a game that saw reserves play the fourth quarter. He hit two 3-pointers.

Bryson Cheatwood added 12 points, and the Wildcats improved to 5-1.

Faith’s Parker Robertson hit all six of his free throws on the way to a team-high 10 points, and Dylan Rogers added eight points.

DONOHO 65, OHATCHEE 60 (OT): Hartwell Church’s 14 points included five free throws in overtime, and that proved to be the difference.

Regulation ended with a 58-58 tie after Ohatchee’s Xavier Luna hit a layup with 0.4 seconds left on an Alston Carroll assist.

Ethan Crawford led Donoho with 20, and Carson Chandler added 13. Carroll hit six 3-pointers on the way to 24 points, and Hunter Hughes added 13.

Girls

WEAVER 73, PLEASANT VALLEY 15: Aaliyah Marks scored a game-high 31 points, 16 in the second quarter. Kimora Miles added 23 points, and Maddie Stanford contributed 11.

Pleasant Valley’s Lilly Robinson hit two 3-pointers to account for her team-high six points.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 51, WELLBORN 12: Modasti Carr and Sophie Williams led JCA (4-0) with 12 points apiece. Addy Lee added 11 points, eight assists, four steals and three rebounds. Mollie Mullinax contributed 10 points, nine steals, four rebounds and three assists.
