HOOVER — Area rivals Alexandria and Cherokee County will play for the Class 4A North Regional title Friday, and two-time defending Class 2A state champion Pleasant Valley advanced to the regional final.
Cherokee County walked away a regional champion, prevailing in its second five-set thriller against Alexandria in 10 days. The two played to a five-set finish in the Area 12 tournament.
Pleasant Valley finished as regional runner up.
PLEASANT VALLEY: The Raiders will advance to the state tournament as the North Regional’s No. 2 qualifier in 2A and will play South Regional No. 3 Samson on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Birmingham CrossPlex.

— Madison Schwabe; 30 kills, three blocks, seven aces, 38 digs.
— Ella Parris: 22 kills, 14 blocks, four aces, 26 digs, one assist.

ALEXANDRIA: The Valley Cubs beat West Morgan in the 4A regional semifinals and fell to Cherokee County 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 19-25, 9-15 in the finals.
Alexandria will advance to the state tournament as the North Regional’s No. 2 4A qualifier and will play South No. 3 Geneva on Wednesday at noon at Birmingham CrossPlex.

All four regional semifinalists in each classification advance to next week’s state tournament. Oxford will play South Regional 6A winner Spanish Fort on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Birmingham CrossPlex.
