PLEASANT VALLEY — Braxton Salster turned in a memorable performance, and Class 2A sixth-ranked Pleasant Valley scored 35 unanswered points while rallying from behind to beat No. 7 and previously unbeaten North Sand Mountain 42-27.
The victory lifted Pleasant Valley to 8-1 overall, 4-1 in Class 2A, Region 7. The Raiders likely secured second place in the region and a first–round playoff game at home headed into next week’s region finale at Section (2-6, 2-3).
North Sand Mountain (7-1, 4-1) finishes region play against fifth-ranked Pisgah (6-2, 5-0) at home. A North Sand Mountain victory and Pleasant Valley victory would force a three-way tie atop the region.
A Pleasant Valley victory next week would also establish a new single-season program record with nine wins.
Salster rushed 25 times for 204 yards and four touchdowns, covering five, 21, three and seven yards. He also blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown to get the Raiders on the board after North Sand Mountain jumped out to a 14-0 lead.
The Raiders trailed 20-7 when they launched into their run of 35 unanswered points. Running back Kayden Vick started it with a 28-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 20-14.
Vick rushed for 76 yards on 15 carries.
Salster scored the next four touchdowns, all on runs, to make it 42-20.
His night also included eight tackles, including one tackle for loss.
Walker Roper and Izayah Nevens tied with a team-high 10 tackles apiece. Roper recorded three tackles for loss. Nevens had a tackle for loss, two quarterback hurries and a sack.
Jake Barnwell hit four of five extra points and passed for a two-point conversion on a fake.
ANNISTON 43, ONEONTA 6: Jabari Williams rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns, and Class 4A, fourth-ranked Anniston (8-0) clinched the Region 6 title.
The Bulldogs are 6-0 in region play headed into next week’s region finale against White Plains at home. They hold the head-to-head tiebreaker on Alexandria (7-1, 5-1) by virtue of a 20-18 victory over the Valley Cubs on Sept. 12.
Williams’ touchdown runs covered 37 and 90 yards.
Quintavious Cunnningham’s 76 yards rushing included a 70-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Damon Pope rushed for 51 yards, with touchdown runs of seven and 24 yards, and Isaac Mikle had a 48-yard touchdown run on the way to 53 yards rushing for the night.
Malachi Hall led the Anniston defense with eight tackles. Dariontae Brooks, Charles Thomas and Demris Almon had six apiece.
PIEDMONT 69, WEAVER 21: Nick Mixson and Jaxson Howard both ran for 100 yards, and Class 3A, second-ranked Piedmont rolled on homecoming to remain unbeaten overall and in Region 6 play.
The Bulldogs (8-0, 6-0) built a 28-0 lead in the second quarter and held a 40-7 halftime advantage.
Mixson gained 123 yards on six carries and scored three touchdowns. Howard had 100 yards on nine totes with a touchdown.
Quarterback Cole Austin was 6-for-8 passing for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Rollie Pinto caught three passes for 60 yards and two scores. Ethan Tidwell tallied two catches for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Aliandre Wright added a 24-yard touchdown run, and Carson Cleveland had five carries for 14 yards and a score.
The Bulldogs also had three interceptions … one each by Chase Kirkpatrick, Ben Tolbert and Ivan Jones. Jones returned his interception for a 25-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Weaver (2-6, 2-4) scored its first touchdown with 9:02 remaining in the second quarter on Junior Allen’s 63-yard pass to Timo Siles to make it a 28-7 game.
Allen also added an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 8:45 to go in the third.
Leegion Bragg had the Bearcats’ final score with 30 seconds remaining.
WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 34, J.B. PENNINGTON 7: Brody Blevins completed 12 of 18 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns, and Westbrook Christian upped to 7-1 overall, 5-1 in Class 3A, Region 6.
The Warriors gained 422 total yards, with Brodey Wood rushing nine times for a team-high 65 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a 92-yard touchdown pass.
Brodie Johnson caught six passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, and Parker Sims caught a 16-yard touchdown pass.
Read Barber made all five of his extra points, and all seven of his kickoffs went for touchbacks. He hit field goals of 36 and 47 yards.
Titus Jones recorded a team-high 15 tackles, with one tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Gavin Michael had nine tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble, and Easton Skaggs had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
GLENCOE 70, OHATCHEE 16: Jaymen Mintz completed eight of 15 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns, and Glencoe took advantage of five Ohatchee turnovers while improving go 6-2 overall, 5-1 in Class 3A, Region 6.
Bronner McMurray rushed for a team-high 53 yards. He, Alex Hudson, Jalen Hunter and Justin Rogers each had a rushing touchdown.
Isaiah Young caught three passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns, and Bryce Borntrager caught a touchdown pass.
Josiah Bethel returned a fumble 11 yards for a touchdown. Wayne Nowak returned a fumble 23 yards for a score, and Barry Hill returned a fumble 55 yards for a touchdown.
Ohatchee’s Jayden Siegler rushed for a team-best 62 yards, and the Indians (2-7, 1-6) got a rushing touchdown apiece from Ian Engle and Kaleb Brunner. Carson Sanders completed five of 10 passes for 92 yards, but with two interceptions.
WELLBORN 54, LOCUST FORK 48: Mareese Traylor rushed for 130 yards and four touchdowns, and Wellborn clinched a playoff berth.
The Panthers upped to 5-2 overall, 5-1 in Class 3A, Region 6.
Wellborn rushed for 382 yards, with quarterback Aziah Amberson adding 92 yards and a rushing touchdown. He also completed three of five passes for 81 yards.
Thane Doland made a key recovery on a muffed punt, and Jaheim Kirby’s pass breakup on fourth down clinched it.
Wellborn overcame Locust Fork’s 424-yard rushing performance, and the Hornets gained 522 total yards.
WHITE PLAINS 27, ETOWAH 21: Crew Martin accounted for 192 total yards and three touchdowns, and White Plains improved to 3-5 overall, 1-5 in Class 4A, Region 6.
Martin rushed for 94 yards, with touchdown runs of six, 11 and five yards. He also rushed for a two-point conversion.
Martin completed 11 of 16 passes for 98 yards.
Jayden Murray rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for a team-high 44 yards.
RANDOLPH COUTY 42, CHILDERSBURG 6: Moe Winston rushed for 167 yards, and Randolph County rose to 6-2 overall, 3-2 in Class 3A, Region 4.
The Tigers rushed for 371 yards, accounting for all of their total yards.
Winston scored on runs of 66, 47 and 54 yards.
Elijah Thrift rushed for 17 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown run. Brayder Terrell’s 32 yards included an 8-yard touchdown run, and Kameron Parmer scored on a 49-yard run on the way to 72 yards on eight carries.
CENTRAL-CLAY 46, BEAUREGARD 21: Taylor Boyd rushed for 145 yards and four touchdowns, and Central-Clay (8-1) finished 6-0 in Class 5A, Region 4 play.
Boyd also caught a 63-yard touchdown pass.
Quarterback J.T. Wilkerson completed five of nine passes for 95 yards and a touchdown.
The Vols finished with 325 total yards, 230 on the ground.
JCA 46, CORNERSTONE 41: Back in action after missing three games with a foot injury, Noah Lee hit on 16 of 27 passes for 332 yards and five touchdowns as Jacksonville Christian improved to 4-3.
He added 35 yards rushing to account for 368 total yards. He also had a tackle and two pass breakups.
Arnez Heard rushed for 141 yards and had 186 receiving yards. Four of his six touchdowns came on receptions. He also had six tackles and a fumble recovery.
Dawson Wilkerson had 68 receiving yards and a touchdown, and his 17 tackles included one sack.
Jack Henry had 12 tackles and a pass breakup.
