Fitch surpasses career milestone as Ohatchee takes area title. Taylor turns in MVP performance as Donoho wins area. MVP Soriano leads way as Jacksonville takes area. Weaver, Westbrook Christian advance to regional.

OHATCHEE — Alanah Fitch surpassed 1,000 career kills, and host Ohatchee swept Piedmont 25-9, 25-17, 25-13 then beat Westbrook Christian 25-22, 15-25, 25-20, 25-19 in the final to win the Class 3A, Area 12 title on Thursday.
Finalists Ohatchee and Westbrook Christian advanced to next week’s North Regional.
Fitch finished the night with 22 kills and was named tournament most valuable player. She was surprised to surpass 1,000 kills.
“I’m super proud of reaching such a high milestone,” she said. “I honestly had no idea that I was close to reaching 1,000 kills because this is my first year being a hitter only. The past years, I’ve been a setter and right side, so it’s amazing to see how hard I’ve pushed myself to reach such a great accomplishment.
“I’ve always put lots of pressure on myself, so it’s really a testament to all of the hard work that I’ve put in over all of the years. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, coaches who have pushed me to be better every practice and game.”

CLASS 3A, AREA 9: Host Donoho won the Class 3A, Area 9 volleyball tournament Thursday, sweeping Saks 25-9, 25-11, 25-5 and Weaver 25-5, 25-13, 25-18.
Weaver eliminated Randolph County 25-14, 25-14, 25-21. Finalists Donoho and Weaver advanced to next week’s North Regional.
