Jax State 38, Delaware 25

Yes, Gamecocks have their flaws, but defending CUSA champions still right on schedule in league as we know it.

JACKSONVILLE — Who’s perplexed that Jax State just can’t mount a scary passing attack?

Who’s perplexed that Jax State gave up 422 yards passing Wednesday?

Well, relax. The scoreboard said Jax State 38, Delaware 25, and the calendar says all CUSA play from here.

You know, the time of year when Jax State seems to show that non-conference losses don’t matter.

That’s because the Gamecocks live in the upper echelon of  CUSA’s current upper echelon since joining a rebuilding league in 2023.

Yes, the latest Jax State team with 50-plus new players is flawed.

No, it doesn’t seem to matter in the current iteration of CUSA. All of those schools that left a few years ago gave way to a bunch of schools looking for their hand up from FCS, and Jax State looks well built to compete in this mix.

How else to explain that Jax State started 2024 0-3 in non-conference games and won the conference?

How else to explain that Charles Kelly’s first Jax State team is 4-3 but 3-0 CUSA, having already knocked off preseason favorite Liberty?
