PINSON — Maddox Mims’ 21-yard touchdown pass to Andre Ford and Eli Pesnell’s extra point with 10 seconds left made the difference, and Oxford and beat Pinson Valley 41-40 in a key Class 6A, Region 6 game Friday.
Oxford (2-2) scored its second consecutive victory after an 0-2 start and upped to 2–0 in region play. Pinson Valley is 2-2, 1-1.
Mims completed 16 of 23 passes for 309 yards and five touchdowns, and Ford caught six passes for 139 yards and three touchdowns. Jaylin Taylor caught seven passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, Running back Caleb Wynn rushed 17 times for 104 yards and caught six passes for 53 yards and a touchdown.
JACKSONVILLE 42, CENTER POINT 9: Qua McNeal had two touchdown runs and scored on a kickoff return, and Jacksonville won a key Class 5A, Region 6 game,
The Golden Eagles upped to 2-0 overall, 1-1 in region play.
Center Point is 1-3, 0-2.
Jayden Jones added a touchdown run, and Jacksonville’s special teams and defense came up big. Carson Jenkins scored on a 70-yard return of a blocked field goal, and Bryce Allen return an interception 60 yards for a score.
HOKES BLUFF 35, WHITE PLAINS 28: Bryce Whitaker’s 79-yard touchdown run with 9:07 to play made the difference, and the Eagles won in Class 4A, Region 6 play.
Hokes Bluff (3-0) upped to 2-0 in region play, White Plains is 1-2, 0-2.
Whitaker rushed 22 times for 245 yards. His night included four touchdown runs, including scores from nine, five and six yards.
Brenton Hale added 80 yards on 21 carries, including a six-yard touchdown run.
Hokes Bluff gained 332 yards, all rushing.
White Plains’ Crew Martin completed 16 of 22 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns … four and 11 yards to Bryson Cheatwood, who caught nine passes for 95 yards.
Borrelli rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns, covering nine and eight yards.
GLENCOE 42, WELLBORN 0: Bronner McMurray rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns, and Glencoe won in Class 3A, Region 6 play.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-1 overall, 2-1 in region play. Their 3-1 start under first-year coach Bayley Blanchard marks their best since 2015, their last winning season. They’ve tied their biggest win total since 2015, matching three wins in 2023.
Wellborn fell to 2-1, 2-1.
McMurray’s touchdown runs covered 44, 30 and nine yards. Alex Hudson added 96-yards rushing, with touchdown runs of 13 and five yards.
Jaymen Mintz completed six of 11 passes for 92 yards, with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Borntrager.
WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 53, LOCUST FORK 7: Brody Blevins completed 14 of 17 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns, and Westbrook won in Class 3A, Region 6 play.
The Warriors are 3-0 overall and in region play. Locust Fork dropped to 1-3, 1-1.
Blevins hit on touchdown passes of 27 yards to Brodey Wood and 13 yards to Brodie Johnson ran two yards for a score.
Wensley Shannon rushed for a team-best 75 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown run, and Wood’s 50 rushing yards included a 45-yard touchdown run.
Easton Staggs recovered a fumble in the end zone, and Jaxon Marotz recorded a safety. Read Barber kicked a 26-yard field goal.
WEAVER 28, SAKS 24: Weaver got interceptions from Junior Allen, Taylor Green and Deonte Marks and prevailed in Class 3A, Region 6 play.
The Bearcats (1-2) improved to 1-1 in region play. Saks is 1-3, 0-3.
Allen rushed for 177 yards and a touchdown and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.
Green rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown, and Cisco Nira’s 51 receiving yards included a touchdown catch.
HANDLEY 35, ST. JAMES 0: Handley got touchdown runs from Martrez Thomas, Ladarius Tucker and Cordan Patterson and won in Class 4A, Region 3 play.
Handley (3-1) is 2-0 in region play. St. James is 0-4, 0-2.
Patterson rushed for 26 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown run, and completed three of flour passes for 96 yards.
Thomas rushed for 66 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown run, and Tucker’s 44 yards rushing included a 1–yard touchdown run.
Markavian Allen rushed for 95 yards, including a 57-yard run.
Ridge Nelson returned a fumble 13 yards for a touchdown, and Ja’Marcus Daniel returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score.
JCA 52, TRINITY CHRISTIAN 14: Noah Lee passed for 203 yards, rushed for 80 and accounted for three touchdowns each way as Jacksonville Christian improved to 3-0.
Brodie Wilkerson had 88 total yards, including 66 receiving yards. He caught two touchdown passes and rushed for a touchdown.
Skylar Crider had 54 receiving yards and one touchdown catch, and Jack Henry Harris rushed for a touchdown to go with six tackles. Dawson Wilkerson led the defense with 10 tackles.
