JACKSONVILLE — Rivalries always have their trophies, and Alexandria’s players enjoyed reclaiming the paddle Friday, after Jacksonville kept it for three years.

The social media era has rewards all its own, which explains why Alexandria’s football players chanted “Olive Garden” while walking across Jacksonville’s turf with the traditional paddle.

Some posts age well, but one definitely didn’t as the Valley Cubs beat the Golden Eagles 34-7. Alexandria’s victorious players ravenously consumed the moment like bread sticks.

Suffice to say, Alexandria coach Todd Ginn’s job is safe.

“They made a post that said, after this game, Coach Todd is going to be working at Olive Garden,” Alexandria quarterback Cole Wheeler said, quoting a Barstool post. “It’s been going around everywhere.”
