Talkin’ JCA

Coming off of offseason neck surgery, and pondering his coaching future beyond this year, Miller hopes to guide Thunder through ‘another run’ at CFA title.

Editor’s note: This is the sixth installment of Talkin’ Football 2025. East Alabama Sports Today editor Joe Medley will do on-campus interviews at all football-playing schools in Calhoun County. The package will include a video interview, interesting facts and Joe’s take for EA+ subscribers. Today’s visit: the Jacksonville Christian Thunder.

JACKSONVILLE — Open-heart surgery didn’t end Tommy Miller’s coaching career at age 55, and neck surgery won’t keep Calhoun County’s dean of coaches off of the sideline at 70.

As for more seasons beyond the coming season for Miller, he promises nothing. It’s up to the Lord, he says, but he and Jacksonville Christian are set to embark on defense of their 2024 CFA 8-man championship.

The Thunder open their 2025 season Aug. 15, against Alabama School for the Deaf at home, and Miller opens his 31st season as JCA’s head coach, also his 37th season overall as a head coach.

He expects more of the same.

“Another football season,” he said to lead off his appearance at Calhoun County Quarterback Club Media Day. “It happens every year. …

“We feel like we’ve got a shot to make another run at it this year.”

MOre details, interesting facts about the 2025 JCA Thunder and a video interview are available for EA+ subscribers.
