Donoho, Pleasant Valley gets strong starts to area baseball play; Alexandria overcomes no-hitter while sweeping doubleheader with Mortimer Jordan

COLLINSVILLE — Peyton Webb went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs, and Donoho beat Collinsville 10-1 in Class 2A, Area 13 baseball action Friday. His day included a double.

Marcus Lawler went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs.

Nic Thompson had two doubles and an RBI. He also pitched the final 2/3 of an inning, retiring both batters.

Blake Sewell got the start on the mound, working 6 1/3 innings. He allowed four hits and four walks but no earned runs and struck out 11 batters.

PLEASANT VALLEY 11, GASTON 0: Pleasant Valley opened Class 2A, Area 13 play with a shutout of Gaston.

Connor George pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight batters with no walks over five innings. He pitched 46 strikes in 65 overall pitches.

At the plate, Zeke Curvin went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and four RBIs. 

John-Garrett Bryant had a double among his two hits and drove in two runs, and Holt Bentley went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.

Noah Johnson drove in a run, and Bryce Freeman had a double. 

ALEXANDRIA 3-8, MORTIMER JORDAN 1-2: The Valley Cubs got strong pitching in the sweep.

Tripp Patterson pitched a complete game in the opener, allowing four hits and one walk but no earned runs with seven strikeouts over seven innings.

Zach Baskins and Ian Cartwright teamed up in the second game. Baskins started, allowing four hits and four walks but no earned runs with three strikeouts in five innings. Cartwright pitched two innings of relief, allowing one hit, two walks and one earned run with two strikeouts.

Samuel Henegar led the way at the plate, with two doubles and two RBIs in Game 2. Cartwright went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Brodie Slaton and Evan Snow had an RBI apiece, and Tucker Kilgore had a double.

Alexandria manufactured three runs (one earned) with no hits in the first game. The Valley Cubs took advantage of seven walks and two Mortimer Jordan errors.


The White Plains Lady Wildcat Classic, originally a two-day event scheduled to start Friday, cut back to a Saturday-only schedule because of wet field conditions at Oxford Lake. Pool play will start at 10 a.m., and the championship is 7 p.m. The varsity field includes Alexandria, Oxford, Piedmont, Sardis, Wellborn and White Plains.
