SAKS — Steps forward didn’t show in the results of Saks’ first football season under Micheal Easley, but he sees a brighter future.

Makhal Smith accounted for 114 yards of total offense, but the Wildcats’ season ended with a 35-7 loss to Childersburg.

Saks finished 0-10 after going 1-9, 2-8 and 1-9 in the three previous seasons. The Wildcats haven’t had a winning season since going 7-4 in Jonathan Miller’s final season as head coach, in 2022.

“The kids played hard all season,” said easley, Miller’s former offensive coordinator who came back to Saks after coaching at Munford. “We were really pleased with their effort all year.

“We knew it was an uphill battle, coming here this year, and the kids did what we asked them to do, which was get better every week and play hard every game. Our youth and inexperience really put us in a tough spot, but we are really excited for the future!”

Smith completed nine of 19 passes for 89 yards and rushed for 25 yards. He completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Armoni Cooper at 8:12 of the second quarter.

Amarien Moore led Saks rushers with 46 yards on 11 carries for 46 yards. He also had an interception.

Daaron Williams had two catches for 44 yards.
