ANNISTON – Saks coach Jonathan Miller figures the best way to rinse away the bad taste of a tough loss is to get back on the floor as quickly as possible.

The Wildcats had a disappointing finish to their early-season area showdown with Piedmont on Tuesday. But they were right back at it Thursday and crushed Wellborn 70-18 in another area game.

“Any time you have a tough loss it’s just good to get back on the court as soon as possible,” Miller said. “Obviously, we didn’t play great the other night, Piedmont played a great game, we didn’t shoot the ball well. As soon as possible get out here and play.”

The Wildcats (6-2) were in a four-point game about two minutes into the fourth quarter with the undefeated Bulldogs the other night and a 10-point game with four minutes left before the wheels fell off. They lost by 24. They were 11-of-50 from the field.

It was nothing like that the next time they hit the floor. They scored the first six points Thursday night and pulled out to a 19-3 lead after the first quarter. It was 37-10 at halftime.

The big lead allowed Miller to play his entire roster. Twelve of the 13 Wildcats who played scored. Zay Elston got them going early and finished with 14 points. Zaejuan Johnson had 13 and Tyler Smith 12.

Ethan Tidwell had four points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots for Wellborn.

“Any area win is a good win, obviously,” Miller said. “Right now, everybody is chasing Piedmont. You want to be 2 or 3 (if not the No. 1 seed), you don’t want to be 4 or 5.”
