Two former NFL players and the athletic directors of Alabama and Auburn will be among the speakers scheduled to address the Quarterback Club of Calhoun County this fall.

The club, which meets at 5:30 p.m. Mondays at Anniston Country Club, has lined up Alabama AD Bill Battle and Auburn AD Jay Jacobs as its first two speakers in September. It comes back with former Falcons running back William Andrews the following week and welcomes former Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle later in the year.

The final meeting is November 10, during which the club will award three $5,000 scholarships. Last year’s recipients were Joseph Dothard (White Plains), Austin Jennings (Weaver), Gabriel Marchal (Alexandria).

“The hardest part (of putting the lineup together) was working the schedules of the two athletics directors,” club captain Jason Odom said. “We had the names we primarily worked with and once we had the ADs locked in on a date, everybody else fell into place.

“We feel very good about the face we’re bringing both of them in after the seasons they had last year (and) the seasons they’re both expected to have this year. We’re just very excited to bring folks of this caliber to the county.”

The Oxford Quarterback Club, meanwhile, continues to put its lineup together. The club, which meets at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays at the Western Sizzlin’ restaurant, currently has four speakers on board and is hopeful of landing a commitment from Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee.

“We continue to get programs that are diverse, with new speakers we haven’t had before who we think are entertaining and informative about the football season ahead,” said Mike Shaddix, the club’s lineup maker the last seven years.

Shaddix said the club hoped to have its 2014 schedule finalized in the next week to 10 days.
