Going around the horn with Thursday’s baseball playoff series involving area teams:

Class 3A

PIEDMONT 11-4, LAUDERDALE 1-2: Second-ranked Piedmont (29-7) swept its way through the second round and will play host to the Oakman-Phil Campbell winner in the quarterfinals on dates and times to be determined. 

Cole Austin got the Game 1 win Thursday, allowing no hits or walks and one unearned run with two strikeouts in four innings. Crawford Mallett pitched a perfect inning of relief.

Carson Sanders went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Jaxson Howard went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Brenan Hurst went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Eli Johnson and Alex Bass each went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Ethan Tidwell had a single and an RBI.

Austin, Mallett and Charlie Sparks combined to hold Lauderdale County to four hits in the second game, and Hurst went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Johnson went 1-for-2 with a run and two RBIs.

Bass went 2-for-3 and Carson Cleveland 2-for-4. 

Class 4A

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 1-3, MADISON COUNTY 0-0: Fifth-ranked Westbrook Christian (22-9) held second-ranked Madison County scoreless in their second-round playoff series Thursday and will play host to the Cordova-Deshler winner in the quarterfinals at dates and times to be determined.

Westbrook’s Emmett Daniel pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts in Thursday’s first game, and Brodie Johnson pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts in Game 2.

Daniel went 2-for-3 in Game 1, and Johnson doubled and scored the game’s only run.

Wil Chadwick had a single and an RBI in the second game. Daniel and Bo Kilgo each had an RBI, and Brody Blevins went 2-for-3 with two runs. 

Class 2A

PLEASANT VALLEY 8-2, NORTH SAND MOUNTAIN 2-9: No. 9 Pleasant Valley (20-9) split with No. 4 North Sand Mountain (22-8). They will play the decisive Game 3 on Friday.

Dixon Duncan went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run in Game 1, and Jackson Acker went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Dallas Roper and Landon Beason each went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Nic Acker went 2-for-4 with a run, and Brody Barnwell went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.

Roper pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.

Nic Acker and Peyton Mann each had a single and an RBI in Game 2. Duncan went 2-for-3 with a run.

Roper went 2-for-3, and Wes Wheeler went 2-for-4. 

Class 5A

LINCOLN 3-3, EAST LIMESTONE 4-2: Lincoln (22-11) split the first two games of its Class 5A playoff series with East Limestone. Game 3 is Friday.

Lincoln’s Aiden Trammell pitched a solid outing in Game 1, allowing four hits, three walks and two earned runs with six strikeouts in six innings. Charlie Ramsey went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Mark Darby went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Brayden Palmore added an RBI.

Darby went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Game 2. Palmore went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Christian Bean had an RBI.

Brayden Shisler pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts.
