Baseball playoffs

Oxford, Westbrook Christian, Piedmont, Ranburne and Spring Garden sweep their way into the second round.

Going around the horn on Friday’s area high school baseball playoff action:  

Class 6A

OXFORD 12-3, CLAY-CHALKVILLE 1-0: Seventh-ranked Oxford (26-11) advanced to face Hazel Green on the road in the second round.

Rocco Maniscalco went 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs in the first game, a 12-1 Oxford victory.

Canaan Whitman went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Bryson Bradford had a double and two RBIs, and Ayden Noyola had a single and two RBIs.  

Chase Williams went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Asa Burns went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs. Marcus Lawler went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Noyola allowed six hits with five strikeouts and one walk in five innings.

Williams got the win in the second game, a 3-0 Oxford victory, allowing no hits and one walk with five strikeouts in four innings. Charlie Maniscalco allowed one hit with two strikeouts in three innings.

Rocco Maniscalco had a single and two RBIs, and Lawler had a triple and a run.

Class 4A

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 10-4, CHEROKEE COUNTY 0-0: Fifth-ranked Westbrook Christian (20-9) advanced to face second-ranked Madison County on the road in the second round.

Emmett Daniel pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the first game, a 4-0 Westbrook victory. Jacob Maples led the Warriors at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs.

Brooks Whiteside had a double and an RBI, and Dalton Helms had a single and an RBI.

Brodie Johnson pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts in the second game, a 10-0 Westbrook victory. He also had a double, three RBIs and a run.

Wil Chadwick went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run, and Brady Carden went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Brody Blevins had a triple and two runs, and Maples had a triple and an RBI.

Class 3A

PIEDMONT 13-11, VINEMONT 0-2: Second-ranked Piedmont (27-7) swept through the first round and will play at frequent playoff opponent Lauderdale County in the second round.

Cole Austin pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in Friday’s first game, a 13-0 victory. He issued no walks and helped his cause with a single and an RBI.

Brenan Hurst went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Ben Dempsey went 1-for-1 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Jaxson Howard had a double, two RBIs and a run.

Ethan Tidwell went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Eli Johnson went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, three RBIs and a run as Piedmont won the second game 11-2.

Dempsey went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Hurst had a double and two RBIs. Carson Cleveland had a double and one RBI, and Howard went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Charlie Sparks and Crawford Mallett combined to allow no hits with 14 strikeouts and three walks. Mallett struck out 10 batters with one walk in five innings.  

Class 2A

RANBURNE 10-16, ISABELLA 0-1: Ranburne (24-11-1), ranked No. 10 in Class 2A, will play at Ariton in the second round.

Asher Brown pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in Friday’s first game, a 10-0 Ranburne victory.

Cason Jones led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and three runs. Drew Davenport had a double, a run and an RBI, and Aiden Jackson went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Logan Carter had a single, an RBI and a run.

Davenport and Rance Merrill combined to hold Isabella to two hits in the second game, which the Bulldogs won 16-1. Davenport had five strikeouts in three innings of work and went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and three RBIs.

Carter Loren went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run. Jackson had a single, two RBIs and a run, and Jones went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Owen Henderson went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Carter went 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI. 

Class 1A

SPRING GARDEN 13-18, VICTORY CHRISTIAN 8-3: Spring Garden (18-11) will play host to Hubbertville in the second round.

The Panthers have won 12 of their past 13 games.

Brady Ruark went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs in the first game, a 13-8 Spring Garden victory. Zane Edwards had a double, four RBIs and a run, and Hayes Guthrie had a double, three RBIs and a run.

Brody Bostick went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Shawn Carnes went 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI.

Bostick got the win, allowing five hits and one walk with one earned run  and three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.

Edwards went 3-for-5 with a double, six RBIs and four runs in the second game, and Ben Baker went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs. 

Clayton Sadler went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Joel Hunter went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

Dawson Ellzey went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Hunter, Edwards and Bostick combined to hold Victory to one hit. Edwards allowed no hit with four strikeouts and two walks in three innings.
