Spring roundup

Alexandria thumps state softball power Moody, and Jacksonville, Weaver and Wellborn among victors in baseball.

Going around the horn with Monday’s area high school softball and baseball:

Softball

ALEXANDRIA 11, MOODY 1: Khloe England pitched a 3-hitter with two strikeouts and two walks in five innings, and Class 4A No. 6 Alexandria (13-7) pounded out 12 hits against Class 5A No. 8 Moody.

Charlee Parris went 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple and six RBIs. 

Reece Carr went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Baylee Elston went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs. Boo Boo Bright went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Kat Wheeler went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run, and Cali Hess had a double and an RBI.  

PIEDMONT 20, WELLBORN 2: Piedmont pounded out 20 hits and improved to 6-9-2.

Ellie Tolbert led the way, going 5-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs, and Keagan Rogers went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs.

Nakia Bothwell went 2-for-6 with a triple, three runs and three RBIs, and Amarae Champion went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and three runs.

Brindlee Masters went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, and Cadence Buttram went 2-for-6 with two runs. Anna Hase went 1-for-5 with three runs and an RBI, and Kaelyn Greene went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Rogers pitched a complete game, allowing four hits with 11 strikeouts in seven innings.

Wellborn’s Ryleigh Smith went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs, and Cassidy Gray went 1-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and a run.

RANDOLPH COUNTY 5, RAGLAND 3: Hannah Parmer had a triple, two RBIs and two runs, and Randolph County improved to 12-5.

Bryer Thompson went 2-for-2 with a run, and Abi Waters spread out 10 hits over seven innings, allowing three runs (one earned) with a strikeout and no walks.

BOAZ 8, OXFORD 2: Madison Murphy had two of Oxford’s six hits, including a double, and scored a run, but Oxford (12-6) fell to Class 5A No. 2 Boaz. Koriyah Kimbrough went  2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jayla Jackson pitched two solid innings of relief, allowing one hit with one strikeout and no runs.

PELL CITY 5, WHITE PLAINS 2: Sara Kate Adams hit a solo home run, and Carleigh-Anne Green went 2-for-2 with a double and a run, but White Plains fell to 18-12. Carli Fritts spread out six hits, four walks and four earned runs with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

Baseball

JACKSONVILLE 15, GLENCOE 4: Luke Richardson went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run, and Jacksonville improved to 9-10. 

Nick Johnson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run, and Matthew Salmon went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs. John Ducar went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, the RBIs and a run.

Cooper Haynes got the win, spreading out seven hits, the earned runs and a walk with the strikeouts in seven innings.

WEAVER 11, RAGLAND 4: Tucker Michaels allowed three hits, one earned run and one walk with 13 strikeouts in five innings, and Weaver improved to 8-6. He also went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Connor Hyatt allowed one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in two innings of relief. 

Landon Free went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Peyton Andrews went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Zane Hairrell went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

WELLBORN 9, CEDAR BLUFF 4: Zach Pressley went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Wellborn won at Choccolocco Park to improve to 10-8.

J.D. Talley went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Tanner Ingram went 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.

Ashton Woodard got the win, allowing four hits, one earned run and on walk with six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. He also went 2-for-2 with two runs.

GLENCOE SPLITS: The Yellow Jackets (10-13) fell to Jacksonville 15-4 and beat Sand Rock 10-0. 

Aiden Johnson pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in five innings against Sand Rock. He also had a double, a run and an RBI. 

Jaxon Hollis went 1-for-2 with four runs and two RBIs against Sand Rock, and Braxton Fortenberry had a double and a run. Luke Johnson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Colby Cox had two RBIs. Cooper Gomez had a single, two runs and an RBI.  

Hollis went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI against Jacksonville, and Aiden Johnson had a triple and two RBIs.

Justin Rogers had a single and an RBI, and Gomez went 2-for-3.

RANBURNE 5, VINCENT 4: Logan Carter’s two-run double in the top of the sixth inning stood up as the winning hit, and the Bulldogs improved to 15-5-1. He finished 2-for-3.

Drew Davenport went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Carter Loren went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Davenport got the win, allowing two hits, no earned runs and two walks with nine strikeouts in six innings, and Loren pitched a perfect inning of relief.

SOUTHSIDE 10, SPRINGFIELD 0: Shelby Houston pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts, and Southside improved 10-9. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Ethan Sarratt hit a solo home run, and Abe Martin went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Alex Brewer went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

SPRING GARDEN 4, SECTION 3: Hayes Guthrie’s sacrifice bunt in the top of the seventh inning put the Panthers (7-10) up 4-2 and stood up as the winning run.

Clayton Sadler went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Joel Hunter went 2-for-4 with a double two runs. Ben Baker had a double, and Eli Bates went 2-for-4.
