PINE HILL — Calhoun County championships are great, especially when kept within the family.
Alexandria’s Jamarcus Stokes shot a 3-under-par 69 in Monday’s first round at Pine Hill to lead the boys’ field by three strokes, and sister and defending champion Jasmine Stokes shot even 72 to lead the girls’ field by three shots.
White Plains’ boys and girls lead team competition by a wide margin. The boys got 74s from Cam Hurst, Ben Thomas and Wyatt Cotney and a 75 from Dison Durden to post a team score of 297, leading second-place Alexandria by 25 shots.
A withdrawal took defending champion Alexandria’s girls out of the team competition, and White Plains’ girls seek their fourth tournament victory this season after shooting 236. Oxford is second at 315.
