Oxford, White Plains split on the first day, and Woodland drops two against higher classified opponents in Oxford’s annual tournament.

OXFORD — Oxford and White Plains each won one of two games in the annual Oxford Spring Sting on Friday, and Class 1A Woodland dropped two against 6A and 4A competition at Choccolocco Park.
The Spring Sting continues Saturday. Here’s a look at where teams stand as April approaches.

Spring Sting
OXFORD SPLITS: Oxford (12-3) fell to Homewood 7-3 and beat Arab 5-4 after scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end it.
The winning run against Arab scored on Tymeria Smith-Lindsey’s fielder’s choice with bases loaded and two outs.. Haleigh Pruitt scored.
The sixth-inning rally also featured an Emma Tims-Becerra triple to start it and Madison Murphy’s RBI single.’
Jayla Jackson got the win, allowing five hits, three earned runs and five walks with four strikeouts in six innings.
Jackson went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs against Homewood.
Oxford returned to action this week after a three-week hiatus that included two area forfeits from Shades Valley and spring break. The Yellow Jackets await Jordyn Alexander’s return from a surgery unrelated to sports, and Mariana Becerra pitched against Homewood on Friday after coming back from an ankle injury.
Oxford coach Wendy McKibbin said she expects the Yellow Jackets to reach full strength again by the Calhoun County Tournament, which starts April 6. The county seeding meeting is Wednesday, and she’s “pleased” with Oxford’s season so far.
“We’ve had some injuries and some things go on early,” she said. “I’m pleased with how we’ve come back and responded.”

WHITE PLAINS: The Wildcats beat Albertville 9-6 and fell to Wilson 7-1 to reach 17-10 on the season.
Carli Fritts struck out 14 Albertville batters and spread out five hits and two walks in seven innings. She also went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Karli Otwell went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Carleigh-Anne Green went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
Sara Kate Adams had a single, two RBIs and a run, and Jaylie Holt hit a triple with an RBI and a run,
Holt went 3-for-4 against Wilson. Adams, Fritts and Otwell went 2-for-4, and Green had a single and an RBI.
“I just really worry about us playing our best ball,” White Plains coach Anna Burgess said. “I just worry about us reaching our potential, playing to our potential, playing hard, regardless of the record and regardless of the opponent. That’s what matters to me is playing our hardest and playing our best.
“I see it at times, but it’s got to be more consistent.”

WOODLAND DROPS TWO: The Class 1A ninth-ranked Bobcats fell to Brookwood 7-0 and Wilson 10-1. Brookwood is receiving votes in Class 6A in the Alabama Sports Writers Association poll, and Wilson is receiving votes in Class 4A.
Emma Elsberry had Woodland’s lone hit, a single, against Brookwood. Skylar Vann had a single and RBI against Wilson.
The Bobcats fell to 9-2-1.
