Going around the horn with Thursday’s area high school baseball and softball:
Baseball
PIEDMONT 5-4, CHEROKEE COUNTY 0-0: Cole Austin pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts, and Carson Cleveland and Brenan Hurst combined to hold Cherokee County to five hits in the nightcap as Piedmont upped to 14-4.
Cleveland allowed five hits with four walks and six strikeouts in seven innings, and Hurst allowed one walk in one inning of relief.
Alex Bass went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the first game, and Austin went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Ben Dempsey also had an RBI.
Carson Sanders went 1-for-2 with a run and RBI in the second game, and Piedmont got an RBI apiece from Austin and Bass. Ben Tolbert hit a triple, and the Bulldogs got a double apiece from Ethan Tidwell and Jaxson Howard.
ALEXANDRIA 16, CLEBURNE COUNTY 3: Alexandria put up 12 runs in the third inning and cruised to an area victory, improving to 11-8.
Sawyer Coggins led the Valley Cubs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run. Knox Faulkner went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Cole Wheeler went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.
Emmitt Waldrep had two RBIs and three runs. Cooper Smith and Cam Johnson each went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
Coggins got the win, allowing two hits, two earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings.
Cleburne County’s Matthew Wilson had a double and a run.
GLENCOE 12, OHATCHEE 2: Cooper Gomez went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Glencoe improved to 7–12 with an area victory.
Aiden Johnson went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run, and Daniel Bradley went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI.
Jaxon Hollis went 2-for-4 with a run. Bryce Borntrager and Luke Johnson each had a single, a run and an RBI, and Braxton Fortenberry had a single and two RBIs.
Ohatchee’s Elijah Tuiolosega had a single and a run.
PLEASANT VALLEY 14, GASTON 7: Dallas Roper went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs, and Pleasant Valley completed an area sweep.
Wesley Wheeler went 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs, and Cooper Dougal went 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs.
Dixon Duncan went 3-for-3 with a double and a run, and Peyton Mann went 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.
Nic Acker went 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBIs, and Jackson Acker went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Jackson Acker got the win, allowing out four hits with eight walks and nine strikeouts in seven innings.
WEAVER 4-16, RANDOLPH COUNTY 5-10: Weaver (7-6) took the second game to win two of three games in their area series. The Bearcats won 9-7 on Tuesday.
Tucker Michaels went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in Thursday’s second game, and several Weaver batters made contributions: Connor Hyatt 2-for-3 with two doubles, four runs and an RBI; Tracen Jones 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs; Braylen Gregory 1-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run; Landon Free 1-for-3 with a double and two runs; Zane Hairrell 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI; and Elijah Wills three runs and two RBIs.
Hyatt went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run in Thursday’s first game, and Michaels went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs. Peyton Andrews went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
WELLBORN 24, SAKS 4: Tanner Ingram homered with four RBIs and three runs, and Wellborn (9-7) completed an area sweep. Ashton Woodard went 1-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs, and J.D. Talley went 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and three runs.
Zach Pressley went 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs. Dalton Dillard went 1-for-5 with three RBis and a run, and Jackson Clark went 1-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.
Jace Bradley went 1-for-2 with three runs and an RBI, and Eli Wicklund went 1-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
Zane Hill went 2-for-3 with three runs.
Bradley got the win, holding Saks to one hit, two walks and one earned run with six strikeouts in three innings.
Saks’ Braylon Raines went 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI.
RANBURNE 10, CENTRAL-COOSA 0: Asher Brown allowed two hits, two walks and no runs with 12 strikeouts in five innings, and Ranburne improved to 14-4-1 while completing an area sweep.
Logan Carter had a single and two RBIs, and Carter Loren went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. James Ward had a double with two runs and an RBI, and Colton Johnson had a double with a run and an RBI.
Aiden Jackson had a double and two runs.
WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 6, ETOWAH 3: Wil Chadwick went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Westbrook Christian completed an area sweep of Etowah.
Brodie Johnson went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Brody Blevins went 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Emmett Daniel had a double and a run, and Bo Kilgo hit a double. Brady Carden went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Johnson pitched a complete game, spreading out six hits with two earned runs, one walk and eight strikeouts in seven innings.
BENJAMIN RUSSELL 3-11, CENTRAL-CLAY 2-1: Central-Clay’s Sam Harris had a triple and RBI in the first game, and Hudson Foster had an RBI. Collin Sims, Braden Spryberry and Ryder Waldrep combined to spread out 11 Benjamin Russell hits with one walk.
Foster had an RBI in the second game. Waldrep and J.T. Wilkerson had a double apiece.
ONEONTA 16-7, HOKES BLUFF 6-2: Hokes Bluff’s Preston Griffith went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI in the first game, and Carson Peppers went 2-for-3 with a run. Drew McCarver went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Javin Norman had a single and an RBI. Tanner Rutledge went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
Bray Bearden had Hokes Bluff’s hit in the second game, a single, and Griffith had an RBI.
MUNFORD DROPS TWO: The Lions (7-8) fell to McAdory 9-8 and Deshler 13-2.
Braylon Stewart went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run against McAdory, and Aiden Harris went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Kane Krafthefer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run.
Jace Waugh had a single and an RBI, and Braydon Nichols went 2-for-4 with a run.
Harris went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI against Deshler, and Bryson Cooper had a single and an RBI.
WHITE PLAINS DROPS TWO: The Wildcats (6-9) fell to Haleyville 12-0 and Deshler 6-1 at Choccolocco Park. Crew Martin singled for White Plains’ lone hit against Haleyville, and Colby Jones had a single and a run against Deshler.
Softball
PLEASANT VALLEY 17, GASTON 6: Charlee Grogan went 5-for-5 with two RBIs, and Pleasant Valley improved to 8-12 overall, 3-1 area.
Alexa Cranmer went 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, three runs and three RBIs. Lilly Robinson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Cailey Almaroad went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Elise Wheeler went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
Hanna Henry went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Ellie Patterson went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
OHATCHEE 10, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 0: Makayla Brackett tripled with three RBIs, and Ohatchee (14-5) picked up an area victory.
Annie Cox went 2-for-2 with two doubles, a run and an RBI, and Mollee Barnes went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Alanah Fitch had a double, a run and an RBI.
Gracie Reed singled with an RBI and scored a run.
Cox pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk in five innings.
WEAVER 6, CLEBURNE COUNTY 3: Maddie Stanford went 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Weaver improved to 8-9.
Ashlyn Coleman went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Promise McLean went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Ariel Sargent had a single and a run.
McLean pitched a two-hitter, allowing two walks and two earned runs with five strikeouts in seven innings.
WELLBORN 17, SAKS 2: Cassidy Gray went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs, and Wellborn got its third win of the season. She also held Saks hitless with five strikeouts and three walks in three innings.
Braelyn Bean had three runs and an RBI. Ansley Greene and Raelyn Webb each had two RBIs and a run. Brylee Luker and Addy Bowman each had two runs and an RBI.
Bella Nunez went 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI.
WOODLAND 4, RANBURNE 0: Railey Williams spread out five hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks in a shutout, and Woodland improved to 9-0-1.
Emma Elsberry went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Lucy Phillips went 2-for-2 with two runs. Alyssa Taylor had a double and a run.
Ranburne’s Kasen Hallman went 2-for-2 with a double, and Kamryn Jenkins went 2-for-3. The Bulldogs are 7-11.
RANDOLPH COUNTY 15, CENTRAL-COOSA 0: Lizzie Milam pitched a perfect three innings with five strikeouts, and Randolph County upped to 9-4. She also went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Hannah Parmer went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Abi Waters went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a run.
Gracie Huckeba went 1-for-1 with three runs and an RBI. Caroline Waters had two RBIs and two runs, and Bryer Thompson had three runs and an RBI.
HOKES BLUFF 18, ONEONTA 3: Rylee Hill went 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs in, and Makenna Bennich went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs as Hokes Bluff upped to 9-7.
Lainey Kate Beggs went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs, and Addison Simmons went 3-for-3 with a double two runs and two RBIs. Pressley Wall went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and an RBI.
Lacey Grace Hall got the win, allowing two hits, two earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings.
