Spring roundup

Oxford softball makes victorious return to the diamond, and Alexandria wins thriller against White Plains. Ohatchee softball rolls to 13th win.

Going around the horn on Monday’s area high school baseball and softball:

Softball

OXFORD 13, SOUTHSIDE 7:  Madison Murphy went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs, and Oxford (11-1) won its first game since March 2.

The Yellow Jackets typically don’t play on spring break, which was last week. Shades Valley forfeited two area games scheduled for March 12, and the boys’ basketball team played its state tournament games on March 4 and 7 in Birmingham.

Kylee Stephens went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run Monday, and Jayla Jackson went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Emma Tims-Becerra went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Haleigh Pruitt went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Charleigh Trotter went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Tymeria Smith-Lindsey went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Jackson pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits, five walks and four earned runs with seven strikeouts.

Southside’s Rylann Shaw went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, and Lauren McKee went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Landrie Hill hit a double, a run and an RBI, and Anna Chappell went 2-for-4 with a double. Memory Kay went 2-for-4 with a run.

ALEXANDRIA 3, WHITE PLAINS 2: Reece Carr broke a tie game with an RBi single in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Alexandria improved to 12-7.

Carr also pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, three walks and two earned runs with five strikeouts in seven innings.

Cali Hess had an RBI and a run, and Charlee Parris went 2-for-3 with a run. Marlee Edge went 1-for-2 with a double and a run.

White Plains’ Carli Fritts spread out seven hits, three earned runs and two walks with nine strikeouts over six innings. She also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Carleigh-Anne Green went 2-for-3, and Sara Kate Adams had a single and a run.

OHATCHEE 16, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 5: Alanah Fitch went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs and two RBIs, and Ohatchee improved to 13-5.

Reese Steward went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Annie Cox went 2-for-4 with four runs and two RBIs, and Mollee Barnes went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Gracie Reed had a single and two RBIs, and Makayla Brackett had a single, a run and an RBI.

Jordyn Faulkner spread out six hits, four walks and four earned runs with six strikeouts in five innings.

Westbrook Christian’s Brandi Stewart went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Parker Borders had a single and an RBI. Brooklyn Stewart went 2-for-2 with a run.

FYFFE 8, RANBURNE 3: Ranburne’s Carter Martin went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Rylie Duke went 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI.

Baseball

HANDLEY 11, MT. ZION (GA.) 8: Aden Anthony went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, and Handley improved to 9-7.

Cordan Patterson went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and Zae Dunson went 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI. Skylar Hester went 2-for-3 with two runs, and Cole Davis went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Kaleb Powel had a triple and a run, and he got the win, allowing six hits, four earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings.

BOWDON (GA.) 4, HOPE CHRISTIAN 1: Kainen Bozeman, Caden Marturello and Trevor Ryals each had a single, and Ryals scored a run as Hope dipped to 9-6. Aziah Amberson allowed five hits, four walks and two earned runs with nine strikeouts in five innings.
