For the second time in a year and third time in four years, Saks is seeking a head football coach.

Add a boys’ basketball coach, as well.

Shannon Felder is out after one year on both jobs, Saks principal C.J. Boyd confirmed Friday.

“We have decided to make a change,” Boyd said. “We have not posted the position as of today as we are on spring break.”

Saks hired Felder after Alphonso Freeney left to join Jeremy Sullivan’s staff at Jacksonville in 2025. Saks hired Freeney to replace Jonathan Miller, who left to become Piedmont’s head coach after the 2022 season.

Saks made the Class 3A semifinals in 2021, falling in overtime to Piedmont. Since then, the Wildcats have gone 7-4 in Miller’s final season, 1-9, 2-8 and 1-9.

Saks’ boys’ basketball team lost to Randolph County in the first round of the Class 3A, Area 9 tournament this past season.

While Saks’ football team was young and had a mere 19-man roster, Felder said he saw potential for improvement. He said he was blindsided by the changee.

“One week, he asked me to be the school rep at (Calhoun County) baseball tournament,” he said. “The next week, this.

“Not sure why I was let go, but that’s the nature of this job sometimes.”
