Spring roundup

Coming off of county baseball tournament, Oxford and Piedmont each win two games. Alexandria wins two, and Jacksonville gets a shutout. Lots more baseball and softball inside.

Going around the horn with Saturday’s area high school baseball and softball action:

Baseball

OXFORD WINS TWO: Coming off of its fifth consecutive Calhoun County title, Oxford (9-5) beat Hoover 8-6 and Calera 4-3 on Saturday.

Ayden Noyola homered and had three RBIs against Hoover, and Marcus Lawler went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.

Chase Williams went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Oxford got an RBI apiece from Charlie Maniscalco and Zakaree Newton.

Bryson Bradford got the win in relief, allowing three hits, one walk and three earned runs with two strikeouts in three innings.

Oxford scored two runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth and withstood Calera’s three-run seventh.

Lawler went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Williams went 2-for-2 with a run, Newton went 2-for-4 and Maniscalco singled with an RBI.

Williams got the win, allowing two hits, no walks and no runs with two strikeouts in five innings.

PIEDMONT WINS TWO: Coming off of a runner-up finish in the Calhoun County tournament, the Bulldogs beat Ranburne 11-2 and Vincent 15-4 at Ranburne.

Carson Sanders got the win against Ranburne, allowing two hits, two walks and no runs with two strikeouts in four innings.

Brenan Hurst went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Ben Tolbert had a single and two RBIs. Cole Austin and Rylan Franklin each had a single and an RBI.

Ranburne’s D Davenport went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Ward had a double and an RBI, and Jackson doubled and scored a run.

Hurst went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs against Vincent. Aliandre Wright went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs\, and Alex Bass went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Sanders went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Cole Austin went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.

ALEXANDRIA WINS TWO: The Valley Cubs beat Buckhorn 6-3 and Fayetteville 10-6.

Garrett Haynes went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run against Buckhorn. He also pitched a scoreless and hitless inning of relief with one strikeout and one walk.

Cooper Smith and Sawyer Coggins each went 2-for-4 with a run, and Jeremiah Heathcock went 0-for-1 with three RBIs and a run.

Coggins got the win, allowing three hits, three walks and two earned runs with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

Emmitt Waldrep went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run against Fayetteville, and Heathcock went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Cam Johnson went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Haynes went 2-for-2 with a run. Smith went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Alexandria scored eight runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh, and Jace Loggins got the win, pitching a scoreless inning and a third with one hit and one walk allowed.

JACKSONVILLE 8, HOKES BLUFF 0: Jackson Askew allowed five hits, no walks and no runs with four strikeouts in seven innings, and Jacksonville improved to 5-6.

Luke Richardson went 3-for-4 with two runs, and Nick Johnson went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. John Ducar went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Matthew Salmon doubled and scored a run.

Hokes Bluff (6-7) got a single apiece from Bryce Whitaker, Preston Griffith, Carson Peppers, Javin Norman and Dean Morgan.

CENTRAL-CLAY 11, CLEBURNE COUNTY 6: Kaiden Glenn went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, and Central-Clay improved to 7-3.

J.T. Wilkerson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Kamden Mullins went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Ryder Waldrep went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Hudson Foster had a double and an RBI.

Waldrep got the win, spreading out six hits, three walks and three earned runs with four strikeouts in six innings.

Cleburne County’s Luke Smith went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Cade Shubert went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Parker Fields had a double and a run.

SOUTHSIDE 7, SPRINGVILLE 1: Abe Martin pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks or earned runs allowed, and Southside upped to 7-4. He also went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Eli Stewart went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Southside got a single and an RBI apiece from Carson McGraw and Kolby Dodd.

GLENCOE 7, SPRING GARDEN 3: Glencoe’s Jaxon Hollis pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, two walks and two earned runs with eight strikeouts. He also had a single, a run and an RBI.

Luke Johnson went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Jacob Loftis went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Spring Garden’s Dawson Ellzey went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Brady Ruark and B Baker each went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Ruark scored two runs.

Softball

CENTRAL-CLAY WINS ONE OF THREE: The Vols (4-8) fell to Scottsboro 7-6 and Madison County 7-4 before beating Sardis 12-1.

Lauryn Reed pitched a no-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts in five innings against Sardis. Sardis’ run was unearned.

Soccara Lopez went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs. Anzlee Adams and Lily McCain each had a single and two RBIs, and Analyssa Harris went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Ensleigh Giddens went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

Blair Wheeler went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs against Scottsboro. Adams had a single and two RBIs, and Lopez went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs. Kayden Lumpkin had a single and an RBI.

Chloe Morris went 2-for-3 with a double and a run against Madison County, and Wheeler went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Lopez went 2-for-3 with a run. Adams had a single and an RBI.

CLEBURNE COUNTY SPLITS: The Tigers (5-7) fell to Glencoe 11-0 and 4-2 then beat Saks 11-3.

Emma Williamson went 2-for–3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs against Saks. Khloe Patterson had a triple and two RBIs, and Kourtnie Alred went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Abbie Brown went 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Macey East had a double and a run. Lola Shelton went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Patterson had Cleburne County’s lone hit, a single, in the first game against Glencoe. Lilah Robinson, Alred and Claire Humphries had a single apiece in the second game. 

GLENCOE WINS TWO OF THREE: The Yellow Jackets (5-5) beat Cleburne County 11-0 and 4-2 and fell to Albertville 10-2.

Kynsley Freeman pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk in the first game against Cleburne County, and Andeemae Skinner went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs.

Zowie Morris went 2-fro-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, and Riley Brothers went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Victoria Romano went 2-for-3 with two runs, and Katy Talbot hit a triple. 

Evelyn Nowak pitched a three-hitter in the second game against Cleburne County, allowing one walk and no earned runs with two strikeouts in five innings. She also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Freeman had a double, a run and an RBI, and Skinner went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Caitlin Romano homered with two RBIs against Albertville.

LINCOLN 9, FAYETTEVILLE 1: Shelby Williams pitched a four-hitter with three strikeouts. She also homered with two RBIs.

Aubrey Machen went 2-for-2 with two homes, three RBIs and three runs.

Cameron Pruitt went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and an RBI, and Kinsley Crow hit a solo homer.

Chandler Stephens went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a run.

MUNFORD SPLITS: The Lions (15-4) beat B.B. Comer 11-1 and lost to Childersburg 5-3.

Ashtyn Bishop homered with two RBIs and scored two runs against B.B. Comer, and Madison Arnold went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Chloe Pickette went 3-for-3 with a run.

Addyson Britt went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Saryn Goodson had a double, a run and an RBI.

Abriyah Wilson got the win, allowing three hits, no walks and one earned run with four strikeouts in three innings. Brooklyn Pressley struck out three with one walk in an inning of relief.

Kastin Lathem hit a solo home run against Childersburg. Pickette went 2-fro-3 with a double, and Britt had a double and a run. Bayleigh Durham had a single and an RBI. 

RANDOLPH COUNTY SPLITS: The Tigers (6-4) fell to Hanceville 6-1 and beat Falkville 12-0.

Khloe Yates pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks in four innings against Falkville. She also went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs.

Lizzie Milam went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs, and Hannah Parmer homered while going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. 

Abi Waters went 3-for-3 with three doubles, two RBIs and a run, and Gracie Huckeba went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.

Parmer had a single and an RBI against Hanceville.

WOODLAND WINS, TIES: The Bobcats beat Saks 20-0 and tied Albertville 7-7.

Allie Puckett allowed no hits and one walk with three strikeouts against Saks. She also had a day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, four runs and four RBIs.

Woodland had 20 hits. Kyra Manning went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Kinsley McDaniel went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Alyssa Taylor went 3-for-5 with three doubles, three RBIs and two runs. Skylar Vann went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.

Railey Williams went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI, and Emma Elsberry had a double, a run and an RBI.

McDaniel went 2-for-3 with a run against Albertville, and Taylor went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lucy Phillips went 2-for-3 with two runs, and Vannn hit a double.
