Anniston boys surge to four-game winning streak. Oxford boys place six in double figures. Alexandria sweeps on senior night, and JCA sweeps. Munford, Faith Christian boys victorious.

ANNISTON — Count Anniston’s boys as one of the teams surging into next week’s 75th Calhoun County Tournament.

Kyrie Lewis hit four 3-pointers on the way to 25 points, and the Bulldogs beat visiting Piedmont 73-29 on Friday at Anniston.

The Bulldogs (11-5) made it four consecutive victories.

The Bulldogs carry the No. 4 seed into next week’s county tournament and a bye to the quarterfinals. Their four-game winning streak, including a 70-22 victory over White Plains on Tuesday and a 63-44 victory over Talladega a week ago, started after a 46-33 loss at White Plains.

Their rout of Piedmont on Friday answered a 53-50 loss at Piedmont on Jan. 3.

Anniston got a late start to its season after the school’s football team made a run to the Class 4A state title game. Several basketball players also played football.

“We have finally started to play the way I thought we would coming into the year,” Anniston coach Torry Brown said.

Anniston will play at Fort Payne on Saturday without Lewis, who will make a football campus visit to Samford University.

“I’m excited to see how we play,” Brown said. “We are pressing but just playing better as a team, with better pace, ball movement and overall chemistry. Our defense has been really good.”

Tariq Judkins added 15 points Friday, Jakorie Carr 11 and Kaden Brown nine.

Class 3A No. 7 Piedmont’s Rollie Pinto hit two 3-pointers while scoring 18 points. The Bulldogs are 14-6.

OXFORD 97, CLEBURNE COUNTY 38: Jaylen Alexander hit four 3-pointers and led six Oxford players in double figures with 19 points, and the Class 6A No. 1 Yellow Jackets upped to 19-4.

Oxford also got 18 points (two 3-pointers) from Conner Richerzhagen, 16 in the fourth quarter. Caileb Wilson added 14 points (one 3-pointer), Chris Latson 13 points (one 3-pointer), Marcus Perry Jr. 11 points (three 3-pointers) and Chris Latson 10 points (two 3-pointers).

Cleburne County (17-5) got eight points apiece from Cade Shubert and Matthew Wilson and seven points from Cavin Bates. Lyric Ware scored four points, including a 3-pointer that lifted him to 1,000 career points.   

ALEXANDRIA 79, WEAVER 44: Senior Brayden Thompson led the way on senior night, hitting three 3-pointers on the way to 20 points, and Alexandria improved to 15-6.

Thompson is Alexandria’s lone senior.

Eli Kirby added 17 points, and Cole Wheeler hit three 3-pointers on the way to 15 points. Royce Trantham added 11 points.

Weaver got 13 points apiece from D.J. Marbury and John Curtis Reeves, who hit two 3-pointers.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 77, DONOHO 63: Noah Lee led the way with 26 points, 22 rebounds and five assists, and JCA improved to 13-7.

Bryson Dowdey contributed 20 points and nine rebounds.

Wil Hudson added 13 points and three rebounds, and the Thunder got 12 points, six rebounds and four assists from Anthony Gooch.

FAITH CHRISTIAN 67, SAKS 60: Parker Robertson led Faith with 24 points, and Colin Anderson’s 21 points included four 3-pointers.

Dylan Rogers hit three 3-pointers on the way to 11 points, and Ean Taft added nine points.

Jayden Culpepper led Saks with 14 points, Dakauri Clark’s 11 points included two 3-pointers, and Damarian Adams added 10 points.

MUNFORD 50, HANDLEY 45: Marquell Johnson hit two 3-pointers on the way to 19 points, and Munford improved to 15-6. Joshua Smith’s 14 points included three 3-pointers.

Handley got 11 points from Elijah Stegall. Cordan Patterson added nine points, and the Tigers got eight points apiece from Andre Banks and Ladarious Tucker. Banks hit two 3-pointers.

Girls

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 51, DONOHO 18: Sophie Williams led the way with 14 points, and Class 1A, No. 7 JCA improved to 16-1. She also added three rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Modasti Carr added 10 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two assists. Addy Lee contributed 10 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals. 

Mollie Mullinax turned in seven points, six steals, five rebounds and one assist, and Laney Burdett chipped in seven rebounds.

ALEXANDRIA 58, WEAVER 24: Eighth–grader LaNajia Redwine scored a game-high 17 points, and Alexandria’s girls celebrated senior night by improving to 12-10.

Senior Charlee Parris and sophomore Cali Hess added 13 points apiece.

Weaver got eight points from Aaliyah Marks and six apiece from Kimora Miles and Reyleigh Partner.

HORSESHOE BEND 31, RANBURNE 30: Lily Moss led Horseshoe Bend with 10 points, and Paislee Sharp added eight.

Class 2A No. 5 Ranburne (20-7) got 10 points from Tinley Phillips, including two 3-pointers, and Maranda Ralston added eight points.
