Weaver’s Marbury, Jacksonville’s Nicholson reach 1,000 career points. Alexandria’s boys force coin toss to decide area host. Piedmont sweeps, Ranburne girls roll and Donoho girls victorious on senior night.

WEAVER — D.J. Marbury poured in 27 points and crossed 1,000 career points Thursday, and Weaver’s boys beat Spring Garden 63-46.

Weaver coach Beau Winn presented Marbury with a commemorative ball to mark Marbury’s career milestone. Marbury becomes the third player to reach 1,000 points under Winn.

Weaver also got 11 points from Idris Nira and eight from Junior Allen.

Spring Garden most of its scoring behind the 3-point arc. Eli Bates hit five 3-pointers to account for his 15 points, and Brady Ruark hit three 3-pointers on the way to 14 points. Brody Bostick hit three treys to account for his nine points.  

ALEXANDRIA 76, CHEROKEE COUNTY 35: Cole Wheeler hit five 3-pointers while scoring 31 points, and Alexandria (14-6) forced a coin toss with Cleburne County to decide which team will play host to the Class 4A, Area 12 tournament.

Wheeler scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, in the third quarter. He also finished with 10 rebounds and three steals.

Evan White added 13 points and nine rebounds, and M.J. Morris added 11. 

Tatum Perry led Cherokee County with 13 points, and Owen Jacoway added 10. 

PIEDMONT 67, WHITE PLAINS 59: Rollie Pinto hit two 3-pointers on the way to 26 points, and Class 3A No. 7 Piedmont improved to 14-5. He also hit eight of 11 free throws.

Mason Morrow’s 14 points included four 3-pointers, and Ben Dempsey hit two 3-pointers on the way to 10 points.

Nick Glover added nine points.

Harmon Cobb led White Plains (15-10) with 19 points. Bryson Cheatwood added 15 points, and Crew Martin hit four 3-pointers to account for his 12 points.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY 64, JACKSONVILLE 53: Lincoln Bozeman led three St. Clair County players in double figures with 17 points, including two 3-pointers. Michael Watkins added 15 points, and Jayden Butler added 14.

Jacksonville’s Kamouri Harmon scored a game-high 21 points, including three 3-pointers. He also had five rebounds and three steals.

Ben Pridgen added 11 points with six rebounds, and Calvan Hill’s eight points included two 3-pointers.

Fred Prothro had seven rebounds and three assists. Malik Coleman had six rebounds and two steals to go with four points.

NORTH RIVER 73, HOPE CHRISTIAN 62: Carson Campbell led Hope with 17 points, and he added five rebounds. Kailub Sparks scored 16 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Javon Vinson added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Girls

JACKSONVILLE 58, ST. CLAIR COUNTY 8: Class 5A fifth-ranked Jacksonville (21-3) marked a career milestone for Neveah Nicholson while picking up an area victory.

Nicholson was recognized for reaching 1,000 career points. She reached the milestone with a 3-pointer from the corner at 0:35 of the first quarter Tuesday at Saks.

Nicholson scored 18 points against St. Clair County on Thursday, including four 3-pointers.

Jayci Taylor, who reached 1,000 points earlier this season, led Jacksonville with 23 points. She also had nine steals, six rebounds and three assists.

Ontarriah Braxton had seven rebounds and four steals to go with seven points.

RANBURNE 57, OHATCHEE 15: Tinley Phillips scored all 18 of her points, including three 3-pointers, in the first half as Class 2A No. 5 Ranburne improved to 20-6. She also had three steals and two rebounds.

Maranda Ralston added 10 points and five steals, and Kallie Burson added nine points, two rebounds and two steals.

Emily Riddle led Ohatchee with seven points.

CHEROKEE COUNTY 42, ALEXANDRIA 34: Ellisan Givens scored 15 points, and Cherokee County clinched the right to play host to the Class 4A, Area 12 tournament.

Brooklynn Bruce hit three 3-pointers on the way to 11 points, and Nevaeh Gaidurgis added nine points.

Alexandria’s Charlee Parris scored all 13 of her points in the second half. Kate Wheeler’s three 3-pointers accounted for her nine points, and Cali Hess hit two 3-pointers while scoring nine points.

The Valley Cubs are 11-10.

WEAVER 46, SPRING GARDEN 39: Wever’s Aaliyah Marks scored 32 points, including three 3-pointers, and Reyleigh Partner added six points.

Spring Garden’s Lacie Jo McMurray hit three 3-pointers on the way to 13 points, and Addie Word added 12 points.

PIEDMONT 64, WHITE PLAINS 17: Kenzie Prater scored 16 points, including two 3-pointers, and Piedmont improved to 10-11.

Na’Kia Bothwell added 13 points, and Alaysia Johnson hit two 3-pointers on the way to 12 points. Macie Lockridge’s three 3-pointers accounted for her nine points.

Brooksly Thielker led White Plains with six points.

DONOHO 53, GAYLESVILLE 30: Maddie Shute hit three 3-pointers on the way to 16 points, and the Falcons celebrated their first senior night in four years with a victory.

Donoho resumed varsity girls’ basketball this season after a four-year hiatus. Senior honorees included Ainsley East, Claire Payne, Kate Williamon and Ava Michaels.

The Falcons got nine points apiece from Taylor Worley and Bentlee Pahman.
