Oxford’s boys, girls sweep Shades Valley, clinch right to play host to Class 6A, Area 11 tournament.

IRONDALE — Marcus Perry Jr. hit three 3-pointers on the way to 18 points, and Class 6A top-ranked Oxford beat No. 5 Shades Valley 47-40 in a key Area 11 game Wednesday.

Oxford (18-4) completed an area sweep of Shades Valley (19-5), having beaten the Mounties 70-41 at home Jan. 10. Oxford is 3-0 in area play and clinched the right to play host to the area tournament.

Oxford continues to play without starting guard Jay’lin Taylor (ankle), who played in the first game against Shades Valley. He missed his third start Wednesday.

Chris Latson added 11 points Wednesday, and Jaylen Alexander added 10.

Shades Valley’s Jeremy Chatman scored a team-high 16 points, including three 3-pointers. 

Girls

OXFORD 48, SHADES VALLEY 41: Takayvia Boyd led the way with 15 points, and Oxford (13-9, 3-0 area) clinched the right to play host to the area tournament.

Bri Wilson added 12 points, including three 3-pointers. Savannah Carter’s 10 points included three 3-pointers.

Zoey Little paced Shades Valley with 14 points.
