HEFLIN — Lyric Ware’s ability to change a game can show up at any moment, and it showed up in the second half of Cleburne County’s key Class 4A, Area 12 showdown with Alexandria on Tuesday.

Ware scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, including back-to-back 3-pointers during a key sequence midway through the fourth quarter, and Cleburne County separated and won, 62-51, to extend its winning streak to 16 games.

The Class 4A, seventh-ranked Tigers (17-1) improved to 5-0 in area play with only the Jan. 20 return game at Alexandria left on the area schedule. Alexandria (11-6) fell to 2-1 in area play with home games against Cleburne County and Cherokee County and Friday’s game at White Plains still to play.
