Westbrook Christian’s Brooks gets 500th career victory. Jacksonville sweeps Pell City, and Anniston sweeps Alexandria. White Plains girls, Pleasant Valley boys victorious.

GASTON — Westbrook Christian’s 37-29 victory over Coosa (Ga.) in the Gaston Christmas Tournament on Tuesday came with a special career milestone.

Westbrook coach Jeremy Brooks achieved his 500th career victory.

“I have really enjoyed coaching and being around the players and the competitive environment that athletics provides,” Brooks said. “Also, I think about all the support I’ve had over the years. My wife Brandy and daughter Jordan and family have always been supportive of my career.”

Jordan Brooks, a freshman, led Westbrook with 17 points against Coosa. That included two 3-pointers.

Avery Snead added 13 points, including one 3-pointer.

Jeremy Brooks took the Westbrook job in April of 2023 after coaching Gadsden City’s girls for 17 years. He also coached at Emma Sansom, his alma mater, for seven years before that school became part of the merger that created Gadsden City.

He came to Westbrook with a 463-245 career record, 11 area championships and 13 Northeast Regional appearances. His first Gadsden City team finished as Class 6A state runner up.

“I am currently enjoying coaching Jordan, who is a freshman on our varsity team this season,” Brooks said. “It is definitely a unique lifestyle. 

“Also, a lot of unbelievable assistant coaches have helped me over the years. One of my current coaches, Scott Elkins, has worked with me for 14 years and counting. Current Gadsden City head Coach Jay Tinker helped me for 15 years, when I was the head coach of Gadsden City high girls.”

ANNISTON 48, ALEXANDRIA 45 (OT): Summer Flentroy scored seven of her 15 points in overtime, including the decisive 3-pointer, and Anniston’s girls outlasted Alexandria.

Flentroy scored six points in the fourth quarter.

Lauren Brewster scored all 14 of her points in the first three quarters, and Saniyah Spinks added nine points.

Charlee Parris led Alexandria with 13 points, and Kate Wheeler’s 10 points included two 3-pointers. LaNajia Redwide added eight points.

JACKSONVILLE 46, PELL CITY 26: Jayci Taylor led Jacksonville with 16 points, including two 3-pointers, and 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Ontarriah Braxton added 11 points and eight rebounds, and Neveah Nicholson’s 10 points included two 3-pointers. Nicholson also had three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

KeAsiah Williams contributed eight rebounds and two points.

WHITE PLAINS 58, DONOHO 38: White Plains’ Brooksly Thielker scored a game-high 30 points, and Brooklyn Ward added six.

Donoho’s Madi Shute poured in 21 points, and Bentlee Pahman added seven.

Boys

ANNISTON 67, ALEXANDRIA 50: Kaden Brown hit five 3-pointers on the way to 20 points, and Anniston broke free by outsourcing Alexandria 24-11 in the third quarter.

Brown combined with Jakorie Carr and T.J. Davis to hit four 3-pointers in Anniston’s big third quarter. Carr hit one try on the way to 15 points, and Davis hit two threes on the way to 10 points.

Cole Wheeler paced Alexandria with 14 points (two 3-pointers).

JACKSONVILLE 78, PELL CITY 54: Braylon Kelley’s 21 points included three 3-pointers, and Jacksonville’s boys rolled. He also had four rebounds and two steals.

Kamouri Harmon added 19 points (one 3-pointer), six assists and three steals. Ben Pridgen provided 13 points and six rebounds, and Calvan Hill’s 10 points included two 3-pointers.

PLEASANT VALLEY 83, WELLBORN 26: Braxton Salster led the Raiders with 17 points and 11 rebounds. 

Pleasant Valley also got 14 points from Greer Laros, 11 apiece from Jake Barnwell and Jameson Humphrey and nine from Aiden Bonds.

Justus Williams led Wellborn with 15 points.
