Class 7A power Huntsville ends Oxford’s winning streak in HCS Classic final. Alexandria boys and girls win at Supreme Courts. JCA boys, Jacksonville girls victorious.

HUNTSVILLE — It took the Class 7A team that came closest to ending Hoover’s state-title run last season to end Oxford’s winning streak.

Evan Toms turned in 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Huntsville topped Oxford 57-46 in the finals of the HCS Classic on Saturday at Huntsville High School.

Huntsville, which fell to Hoover 63-60 in last season’s Class 7A Northeast Regional final, improved to 16-3. The Panthers are ranked No. 6 in 7A in this season’s latest Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings.

Oxford (14-4), ranked No. 2 in Class 6A this season, had won 11 games in a row before playing Huntsville. That winning streak started with a 64-58 victory over 7A No. 1 Hoover on Dec. 2.

Huntsville also got 20 points, including three 3-pointers, from Graham Gossett.

Jaylen Alexander led Oxford with 19 points, hitting four of eight 3-point shots. He also had seven rebounds.

Caileb Wilson added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Oxford had just eight turnovers and forced 11, but Huntsville held a 35-25 rebounding edge and held Oxford to 34.6-percent shooting … 26.9 in the first half.

Oxford trailed 28-20 at halftime but closed to within 38-36 by the end of the third quarter.

ALEXANDRIA 84, OAKWOOD 58: Playing in the Supreme Courts Tournament at Guntersville High School, Alexandria’s Cole Wheeler hit five 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 26 points.

J.J.. Beason added 20 points with four 3-pointers, and the Valley Cubs improved to 9-3.

Alexandria also got 12 points with two 3-pointers from M.J. Morris, nine points from Royce Trantham and eight points from Russell Trantham.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 72, SAKS 58: Noah Lee exploded for 38 points, 21 rebounds and three assists as JCA improved to 7-5.

Bryson Dowdey added 23 points and five rebounds, and Jack Henry Harris added eight rebounds.

SARDIS 68, FAITH CHRISTIAN 52: Playing in the Supreme Courts Tournament at Guntersville High School, Faith got 20 points with two 3-pointers from Parker Robertson and 13 points with three 3-pointers from Colin Anderson. Dylan Rogers hit three 3-pointers to account for his nine points.

Girls

JACKSONVILLE 60, ONEONTA 41: Jayci Taylor poured in 31 points, and Jacksonville (14-2) won in the Etowah Christmas Tournament.

Taylor added eight rebounds, eight steals and five assists.

Raybon Pridgen hit three 3-pointers to account for her nine points, and she added three rebounds and an assist. Neveah Nicholson hit two threes on the way to eight points and contributed three rebounds, three assists and three steals, and Denahja Curry had five rebounds and four steals to go with four points.

Reka Dillapree led Oneonta with 14 points, and Madalan Robertson added 11.

ALEXANDRIA 58, COOSA CHRISTIAN 37: Playing in the Supreme Courts Tournament at Guntersville High School, Alexandria got 14 points from LaNajia Redwine.

Kate Wheeler hit four 3-pointers on the way to 13 points, and Charlee Parris matched her 13 points. 

Cali Hess hit two 3-pointers on the way to 11 points.
